I have tried a few times overclocking it further but i just cant get it stable without putting silly amounts of volts through it
it should still be fine for 1 run of 3dmark, my gpus have silly volts through them at those speeds

OK then... this sounds like a challenge.
I've just broke up the i7 rig and put in a sandycrack mobo, cpu and some newer low voltage memory in, so once I get the OS re-built I'll benchmark again and see if that makes a difference. Very odd because I was using fairly recent forceware drivers - just not the most up to date because there are usually issues with folding on 2 cards with the latest drivers, so I tend to leave it until I've seen some feedback. The drivers were definitely released at the end of last year/start of this year though, which is after 3dmarks11 was released, so I'd have thought it should pick it up the SLI part ok.
It all worked fine in Vantage... I can't say about in real world games because 1x480 was fast enough... I just "future-proofed" myself.
For the record, that system cost me:

Eeeeek. Better check I'm insured....
I'd be surprised if I'm not bottom of the pile for £/perf....
You need the update for 3dmark as well for it to recognise SLI.

Cost of CPU, GPU, MB and RAM is approx. £410. Although £35 could be taken off as the extra 2x2GB is overkill.

SLI seems to work on this.
CPU is a 2600K @ 4.6Ghz on a P8P67 Pro wih 8Gb of Vengence Ram bought on deal for the day @ £449
Gfx card are GTX 480's @ 785/2056 (bought when launched) = £800 (for 2 of them)
pt/£ = 9407/1250 = 7.53 at Launch
if you were to price now....
pt/£ = 9407/850 = 11.07 as of current prices....
The lesson I need to learn is that I should definitely wait and buy second hand or when things are not so new and shiney.......
