Love the plane shot (what is it? Harrier?) Really like how you can see the brighter "rings" with afterburner. Noise? Sorry, did you say noise? I can't year ya!

Woke up this morning to find just a wall of white out of the hotel window. Half way up the mountain, we're in it. Will post a pic when it clears (should be awesome up in the Swiss mountains)

English Electric Lightning Mk 6 at Bruntingthorpe. The rings are shockwaves in the exhaust gas - and believe me, you could feel every one! No noise reduction, pretty much OOC.

I've taxi'd in one when I was a lot younger, my old man was Lightning ground crew in Saudi. Awesome old beasts they are, seeing them go full vertical after takeoff is jaw dropping

I think you can buy supersonic rides in EELs in South Africa. Plenty of ocean around there to avoid disturbing people. I can't remember ever seeing one flying, but they look really mean. They're just a big jet engine with stabilisers attached, like a rocket.

    Re: Photo-a-day

The photo doesn't really show how BIG these things are. They were letting us sit in the cockpit of the second plane in the hangar - felt like a kid again

I really should clone out those legs though.

    View from my window:

Only worked with manual focus, auto just focussed on the closest snowflake.

And me trying rather stupidly to do a 1 second exposure:
