Well going by the word "mosaic" I'd guess that's 15 separate photos spliced together? Don't ask me why.
That's your pic btw is it G8ina?

Last summer during my ballooning holiday in Italy I took some night shots as the sky was pretty clear and being in the middle of nowhere, there's hardly any light pollution.
However, being a complete astrotog newbie, I was amazed at how little time was required for movement to be picked up without tracking equipment. A 30 second exposure really starts generating "trails" for all the stars.
Looks pretty though

Nice photo, and yes I know what you mean. It almost completely rules out my Oly for static astro stuff because the high ISO performance is not good. Best I can do is point north and stack
its not Michael's photograph, it comes from Oriana's Flickr http://www.flickr.com/people/orianaitaly/

Thanks for all the nice comments gang.
Astro shooting is a very black art (no pun intended) and if you want more info then http://ukastroimaging.co.uk/forums is a really great place, for all levels of expertise.
That shot of yours tfboy is a great start, but a dark frame subtraction would take all of that amp glow away - the sensor is responding to the heat of the electronics in the camera, by taking an identical exposure but with the lens cap on then subtracting that from the original will simply remove the glow. There is also a software packeage for removing small trails so your pic has the makings of a great widefield shot. If you like Ill have a play and see what I can do.
It's not amp glow It's a bit of light pollution
An out-take shot from this afternoons shoot
Pete - one on the right is used to being in front of my camera, i've taken a few shots of him when he's played at gigs, they wanted a nice photograph for their mums birthday next weekend (thisn't the shot )
