I'm in the Jing - Beijing. Hong Kong is spectacular - protected from the 'events' of the past 100 years that reduced so much of China to a souless mass of concrete towerblocks - you'll find it much more 'Chinese' than China itself.

Chengdu is one of my favourite Chinese cities though - make sure you get up to Jiuzhaigou in the north! What are you doing up there? 你中文说得怎么样?

Well, first thing is that the majority of the cameras here - i'm being presumptious - will be under £1k. You can take shots like these with a camera under £500 - the D40 is one of the most well known ones and a few of us have it, there's also a Sony variant (forgotten exactly which model). A lens will push that up quite a bit for a decent one, but all easily doable for under a grand!

Have a look through some of the other topics in the photo forum to get a rough idea

    Re: Photo-a-day

I don't think anyone here (with the exception of maybe Bobster?) takes photos with pro-grade cameras or lenses. I take alot of my photos with a 24mm prime lens that I got 2nd hand of the internet with a Sony A200.

Anyways a couple of photos from yesterday. I was in Leeds and saw a hint of the sunset behind the train station, ran round and caught the last bit of it. Bloody freezing as well!

and first attempt at a bit of HDR using photomatix - didn't read any of the manual/notes (typically) just dived in and had a go, the sky looks too overpowered to me

Ben....I used to live just there. My apartment building is the building behind the one at the front of the shot....used to get some lovely sunrise/sunsets.

Virtual Monkey? Is that several shots stiched together?

IBM - there always seems to be nice views of the sunset from there - I only usually seem them on the train!!

    Re: Photo-a-day

Just got a £10 set of macro close up lenses for my 18-55mm canon lens.
Don't really know much about macro photography, so any criticism/advice would be much appreciated.

Suprisingly good quality, comes with a nice case but the tripod struggles to hold my camera.
