The question one must ask is : Does having a tattoo make you look good?

    The short answer : NO

I'm not sure about that... some tattoos can look quite nice, however in a professional environment I wouldn't consider them a good thing to have, as in my opinon they can raises doubts about character, maturity and decision making skills.

Re: Are tattoos now socially acceptable?

I work as a waiter and many of my collegues have tattoo's but they do cover them up for work.

A tattoo is not a judge of someones character, nothing is until you know that person or have seen that character yourself.

So tattoo's may be what people judge you on, but if they do they're stupid.

Depends on the tattoo, person, and personal taste. Clearly you don't like tattoos, so you're probably going to answer no regardless of what it is.

OK, a challenge - find a tattoo that the majority of viewers would say makes the wearer look better than if it as not there.

but how many tattoos are done to make people look "better"?

alot of people have symbolic reasons for them...

and they stem back from tribal usage...

OK, I'll add a caveat - a tattoo that is obviously, at first glance, a tattoo.

    And there lies the problem.
Get a group of people from download from this weekend and they'd probably say most tattoos you show them are nice. Get a bunch of London bankers and they'd screw their nose up at them.

You can't judge if a tattoo makes a "wearer look better", because "better" is subjective and dependant on the person.

Only got to post two to realise that this thread is going to be full of sh!t, take my friend malc for instance, one of the cleverest, honest most hard working blokes you will ever meet, built like a brick poo house, but is a qualified piano teacher.

So you judge somebody by their ink ? Shows what a shallow minded person you are.

I don't have a tattoo to make myself look better, for some it's not about style or to try and look cool, for me it's about what I believe in, I got my tattoo for me regardless of whether People think it looks cool or not. I don't think i'd have any more tatts tbh, I don't believe in plastering your body with any old tat - lol tat! ya geddit! - it has to be something meaningful for me

And there lies your problem. Put the two groups together, along with the rest of humankind, then let's have the discussion...

If "malc" turned up for a job working for me at my fictional Pianoforte school along with another identically qualified person who didn't have 'Chainsaw Death' tattooed across their forehead, I would most likely pick the other person.

I think most people, if they were absolutely honest with themselves, would do the same.

By 'most people', I mean a simple mean taken from a large random group.
