sold a hard drive wih data on from Scan

Ordered a hard drive from Scan, got it, plugged it in. And it had a complete win7 system on it with personal data.

Called Scan, arranged for a RMA. But that's not the point. Why is a hard drive with data being sent out???! It obviously belongs to someone.

I unplugged it boxed it up and awaiting collection.

First time it's ever happened and I'm a bit shocked tbh.

Surely this would be better posted in the SCAN section, rather than GD?

I had a HDD from scan that had scratches on it down the side and the bag with the screws had been cut open.

That was with a 2tb samsung one.

    I wonder what's happening then.

Obviously got sold a HD that was sent back to Scan, I would ask for a complete new HD off the shelf in stead of being palmed off with a second hand HD.

Copy and paste the pr0n folder first!
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."

for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

I think they're all at it. By their own admission, MESH use second hand hard drives which they say are "re-mastered" - a fancy way of excusing the fact that they sell second hand goods in "new" computers. People find all sorts of files on the disk after "re-mastering" has taken place. Do Scan use second hand bits Chris P?

Re: sold a hard drive wih data on from Scan

TBH, knowing what a typical warehouse is like, all it takes is a single return that looks otherwise ok outside to get mixed up with your goods in shipment and you get a situation like this.

Anyone who works in distribution knows that every once in a blue moon this happens. What I want to know is who on earth was daft enough to return a HDD with data on it? Windows 7 I could understand, but to return an otherwise working HDD?? Crazy...

But in these rare cases Scan are very helpful at exchanging if you wish to.

I would be thankful for the free pr0n in this case and would maybe paypal scan a couple of extra quid for the nice gesture

Re: sold a hard drive wih data on from Scan

This was common practise when I worked in returns at a well known computer parts company many years ago (not Scan).

Goods returned by customers would first be tested for fault. Anything that passed and could be repackaged would then be sent back into distribution. At least 95% of memory and hds that passed testing were resold as new.
