    Re: E8400 in stock????

Which is exactly what they want you to do, so they can charge you a higher price than you originally ordered it for when you come back and order from them again. And you probably will be back when you see the prices other places are trying to charge. If the best Scans buying power can achieve is to get stock in 4 weeks time, then that's no buying power at all. It seems sticking to NDA's has gained Scan no favours at all with Intel.

    Re: E8400 in stock????

The only two places I can find with it still below £130 are here:

Buy Intel Core 2 Duo Desktop Processor E8400rubbishBX80570E8400 from CCL - Online Retailer of the Year 2007
    dabs.com - Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.00GHz 6M Cache S775 1333MHZ (BX80570E8400)

Ebuyer and Misco arent even listing it, komplett have increaded the price to £139 too.

Everywhere is out of stock, except overclockers. Cancelling your order at this stage is a bit pointless, you will just end up waiting far longer for one.

Lol I just noticed the 8400 price on overclockers. Why people spend any money with them is beyond me

The funny thing is that in the past, the first place I would go online to buy from was overclockers. I rarely ever looked or bothered shopping anywhere else. People that have been shopping there a long time probably do the same. They dont bother looking anywhere else.

The only reason why I did was because The E8400 was £129 everywhere else, and £147 at overclockers. Also my motherboard was £75 at overclockers, £66 at scan.

I feel like sending them a webnote telling them that they have lost another customer to Scan

Although I will still need to buy my G. skill ram from overclockers as it isnt stocked hardly anywhere else in the UK

Heheh yeah I'm not saying people shouldn't buy from them, it's up to the individual of course, just that when they pull crap like this latest 8400 pricing it really pee's me off.

They pretend to have a community that they care about yet they attempt to shaft them at every turn Reminds me of our wonderful government...hehe

Rather harsh over an item thats not in stock imo.

If you really really needed a CPU right now, you shouldnt have picked an E8400.

it was in stock, you got one, i ordered mine before you, therefore i should of got one. They gave it to you cos u paid more and wanted me to wait cos i paid less, this is why i wont ever buy with them again. rather pay more for better service.

    Re: E8400 in stock????

I changed my order at lunchtime today to a Q6600, sorry to say it's still placed with Scan because TBH I'm too busy these days to spend time shopping around.

True to form, they didn't despatch my order again... but I live in hope...all in all I've never had such a poor experience with any tech retailer (and I used to shop at Watford Electronics). Sitting on my money for three weeks with no 'your order is delayed' email, just pushing out ETA one week at a time, while repeatedly fulfilling more recent orders than mine every time stock came in just takes the biscuit. Out of my dozen or so previous orders with Scan I've never had a problem and mistakenly thought that constituted good customer service, but actually 'not stuffing up' is actually just adequate. Dropping the ball like this on even one order out of twelve means it's Amazon, Dabs, Ebuyer, Novatech etc all the way for me in future

    Re: E8400 in stock????

Well, I placed an order for an E8400 last week, only to get a couple of emails saying that they didn't have any in stock

I then got the same email as incubuz yesterday to say middle of March, but then last night I received 2 emails saying my order had been processed and packed and I have had my delivery this morning of my E8400

So if you have already placed your order, it might be worth sticking it out

    Re: E8400 in stock????

    That's good news BigGlenn !

I'm still very unsure about getting the E8400 or waiting for the Q9450.
Well, TBH I guess the same game will start all over again once the Yorkfield is out ... sufficient stock might be available in two to three months ... damn !

I just wonder something else ... I have decided to never ever order anything from overclockers.co.uk ... but how did they manage to get stock while everybody else doesn't ?

o Do they have a relationship with the supplier ?
o Do they pay a premium, hence why they overcharge their customers ?
o Do they play the aggressive game with pretending to have stock and only order once enough people commit ?

I mean, that many customers have complained about them declaring to have stock while they haven't is widely known. I just wonder if retailers are really allowed to muck around with customer like that in UK ?
Trading Standards obviosly are still sleeping despite a high number of complaints.

With an awesome & intuitive interface web presence.

I can see the evaluation already:
    -------------------------------------
Availibility of items ......... 9 out of 10
    Prices ........................... 9 out of 10
    Customer Services ....... 10 out of 10
    Customer satisfaction ... 10 out of 10 ___ ___ Yay !

Nobody with any sense .... unless they've got a LOT of money to invest and don't mind 18 hour days for the next several years trying to get it up and running.

Unless you've got a lot of spare cash laying about, by which I mean millions, you won't be able to buy on the scale that you need to to get prices that are competitive. And, unless you've got something of a track record, you won't even get the direct contracts with suppliers, because you won't have the stability, so you'll end up with distributors. And if you do buy on a large-enough scale, you've still got to be able to sell. So ... you've got to be able to convince large numbers of people not to deal with an established company they've been dealing with for years but to switch to a totally unknown brand-new wet-behind-the ears startup. The advertising expenditure will be horrendous. Oh, and some manufacturers already have exclusive contracts to supply, which means that even if you do have the money, you won't be able to buy direct from them - so you either don't stock those products or you're likely to end up buying from the very people you're trying to compete with.

Oh, and what about premises? You're talking about high-value, high-profile products that will be a beacon to crooks, so you need high-security warehousing, a damn good security system and an expensive insurance policy. A friend of mine runs such a warehouse operation (not for retail computer bits) and he faces well in excess of £50,000 a month in standing costs .... that is, he pays it whether he sells a lot or nothing at all. And he owns the premises. Are you going to buy the warehouse? If so, that's capital tied up in property, which means it's money that it isn't being used to service the company. That might be a good idea in times of heavy property price rises (and bear in mind the fact that commercial property is a very different proposition the the residential rises we've seen in recent years), but right now, with a credit squeeze worldwide? So unless you've got the money in a bag under the bed, you're going to have a certain amount of difficulty even getting the finance to buy a warehouse on a rather questionable business plan. Which means rental costs.

Still wanna open an online store?

    Re: E8400 in stock????

    @ grimpy

The Q9450 could not be in the same short supply as the Wolfdale - it WILL be !

    @ Saracen

    I don't mind working 16 hours a day.

... you won't even get the direct contracts with suppliers ...
I thought business is all about buying and selling, if the supplier are picky with the resellers, that explains the current (bad) situation.

... you've got to be able to convince large numbers of people not to deal with an established company they've been dealing with for years ...
That sounds like as if customer loyality is depending on something personal.
You seem to forget that customer services is an important factor and besides this, a (much) cheaper price attract many buyers and has always done - despite having always ordered from one place before.

... you've got to be able to convince large numbers of people ... to switch to a totally unknown brand-new wet-behind-the ears startup.
As I said, people are not stupid. We have laws in this country. If I had a business and thought I could cheat on others, what would be the point of me going through this all ? My intention would be different and customers would find this out very quick. A good reputation in between so many sharks just MUST have an effect. I refuse to believe that fairness has no value anymore.

... some manufacturers already have exclusive contracts to supply, which means that even if you do have the money, you won't be able to buy direct from them ...
That'd be so sad and I would never understand what an exclusive contract between manufactorer and retailer does for the customer. Thought we have a free trading market. Sounds more like corruption to me.

... you're likely to end up buying from the very people you're trying to compete with.
Now I realize why the gap between the rich and the poor is getting wider and wider. Everything is linked together.

    ... and what about premises?
I work for a company where the owner has started with one little shop back in 1989.
The big call centre I work at has several hundred employees and it is only one of many.
Today he owns over 2000 stores in 20 countries.

By the way, thank you for correcting my spelling mistakes, hehe.
