I'm sorry guys, but the new website is terrible.
I didn't like the old style navigation with the pop-up menus for loads of sections at the top, but this is even worse. It's not logical or obvious how you should get the product you're after you've clicked on the heading.
Also, page layout at 1280 px with IE6 is very bad. Sections are regularly down the bottom of the page after all the content in the left and right side bars.
I was excited for the first 5 seconds that I realised there was a new website because of it's shininess, but functionally, i'm sorry to say it really is terrible.
Back to the drawing board IMO, and my main suggestion is to scrap the 6x9 table of 50 categories at the top - it's illogical and overcomplicated.
I hope this helps

much much better scan. lovely bright feel to it now and easy top bit to. bigger i mean and easier to press the right area to go to.
good job!
Not too bothered about the way it looks. Looked fine before and looks fine now too. Navigation wise, well obviously a lot of us have been using the old one for some time so we are used to it but I don't think the new way is too bad, I would prefer to be able to get straight to the section I want to eg. P35 motherboards or Nvidia 8800 rather than having to clock through.
It's certainly easier to read than the old navigation was, as I sit quite far away and it was a bit of a strain to see it, so thats good
Text scales up a bit better too
I have to agree with most though, it's a bit clunky and slow at the moment.
The speed will improve - no fear about this
not impressed how scan have removed ETA on the order page, i placed a very small order at lunchtime today and i havent had the despatch emails, IIRC its rare that delivery is actually next day with you guys now, i take it you have done this to cover yourselves against customers ringing up and asking where thier items are.
The delivery date is listed on the "Delivery Option" section.
Okay wasn't expecting a new site, so far my impressions aren't great.
Ok change is never easy for the user, but some of the new site takes a step back in usability.
For example it takes two clicks for me to get to a sub category whereas before it was one.
Another example is that I need to scroll down to see any real content, in terms of usability this is a massive no no. What do I want to see; the info about the product I'm wanting to buy of fluff and advertising? I'm not on that small a res at 1440x900 there must be a lot of people on smaller.
Take this page for example http://www.scan.co.uk/Index.aspx?NT=1-0-6-283-0 why do I need to learn about :
AMD 64 Processors, Updating Drivers or 64 Bit Operating Systems
I'm looking at trying to buy a case not looking for lessons.
I'm sure some of the new features are great, but if you are going to annoy me by making me scroll at least a page on every item, I'm going to get bored fast and order elsewhere.
Search: Why is advanced search not next to the main search? Why are both of these not in a more prominent position, the main search box blends in totally to be invisible I had to look twice for it.
Views: Why do I need huge icons which are duplicated to change the product views from line to large?
All: Why is this even here what is it there to do? Let alone all the space around it?
Key/Product Views: Do these need to take up so much room, they are a secondary feature not what the user is on the page for?
File size: Each page is very image heavy I'd hate to be browsing on a slow connection, just one product view page came in at around 1mb.
I could go on, but you get my point.
PS You have an unclosed comment tag on the home page.

New site layout is nice, not too bad on the site loading too but I never really had an issue as such with the old site loading up etc..
To tell the truth, either of the website (old & new) designs work, thats the first thing, I've seen websites used by my siblings to order items that were half baked and wouldn't let you continue with the order.
The only thing I've found a bit of getting use to will be the fact that on the old website if you hovered over a category, you could then select the sub-category by clicking on it directly rather than the new layout where you select the category, then the sub-category and finally view it to see the items.
Incidently, what were the reasons for the new website layout to be introduced NOW?
Edit: Gordy seems to be making the same point as I on the selection of items, he just beat me to it.
initial impressions - ooh shiny, did i click the correct link from favorites, yup.. ooh shiny
thought out impressions -
I prefer the older pop-out style categories, and the order the sub categories were in.. eg graphics cards, the newest ones were at the top. now they seem to be in alphabetical order. I can't tell any more what the newest range is. change it back please, it was quicker getting to the sub-categories, now there are too many buttons to click.
Is it possible instead of saying 'in stock' to actually have a 'number in stock' instead.. might help people who want to do multiple orders of hard drives or graphics cards, so they know if their order might be delayed due to insufficent stock, before purchasing.
had a quick look through some PSU's, on the category list, it show the picture, but on the actual product page it says 'no image available'
this http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=777991
and http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=777992
might be others, not checked yet.. these 2 should keep you busy hunting for pictures for a while..
The 'product page' colours are very soothing aswell, almost nodded off before...
After spending some time with the site today, I think I have to agree with some of the comments here. Although it is nice and modern, it if far too slow, cumbersome and all the other things that aren't directly related to your search or the product take up far too much space.
Looking at IE7s status bar when I thought the page was almost done revealed there was still 80+ images to load :O
A two page scroll on a regular laptop screen is just rediculous! And a full page of scrolling to get to a products detail is way ott. I even have to scroll to log in!! (at least i can now hit return in the last box and the forum submits though)
You said there is going to be different versions to cope with smaller screens, that seems like a crazy amount of work just to get round the over indulgent initial design. I can understant a mobile version, but a laptop version as well?
Not as impressed as I was this morning. I also don't think releasing a site that had such glaring holes was a good idea either. Especially in the accounts and order history department.
Erm sorry if this has already been said but im in a hurry and dont have time to read the 8 pages so far maybe a sticky of things to do maybe.
Anyway how the hell do I see what my past orders were I can see the ordered date invoice no. etc but cant individually click on them to open up what I bought.
And for the love of god my rma section has dissapeared of the map when I really need it.
