I have you now (Jim) *Darth Vader voice*
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.
Have you lot been drinking already!?! lol
Wow, Legthigh has put a decent shift in.
@Raven: Not yet anyway.

I was pondering something bus powered: perhaps 4 (Green edition) 9800GTs
I'll do it once I'm confident that I can fix the board: so far I've found plenty of sources for chips (@~ £15) but I still have no idea which chip it is on the board or whether I could handle the repair myself
One glass of wine so far, but the night is yet young
if it is socketed then it is easy, if it is soldered then you will need to de solder it and solder the new one on £15 seems like a good price tbh, you would need some decent skills to do that, and you need to get hold of a flashed bios chip, unless you have the equipment to flash it yourself (which by the way you are asking I can assume you haven't lol)

All the ones I have done in the past have been 32 pin (9 on 2 sides 7 on the other sides) and have flashed them with a risky technique of using and old sktA board with a socketed bios chip, booting it up with the new bios file and awdflash, popping the bios chip out and replacing it with the blank one.
Quite risky as I said but it works, just don't try to boot the old board with the new chip in it.
Edit: Americans tend to pronounce it sodder, as far as I can tell both pronunciations are correct, though ours is obviously better.

I've found a Welsh company that will try to reprogram the BIOS using the SPI header on MSI motherboards: they charge £20 for that service including return postage of the board, so I might drop them an email in the new year and see what they do in terms of testing once they've attempted reflashing the BIOS etc. If I could get the board up and running for £20 + the cost of posting it to them it would end up being a bit of a bargain...
EDIT: Interesting page about SPI Serial Flash EEPROMs, which are indeed 8pin, from Welsh bios recovery firm...

Interestingly Anandtech's GT430 review found it lagged some way behind a GT240 in the folding@home test: perhaps a set of GT240s is in order instead
EDIT: Reading the GT240 review at Anandtech, it's not going to be a better choice than Green edition 9800GTs anyway, while they're still available...
