Always good to have new team members onboard (even if they are going to overtake me before too long )! And thanks for joining the forum and letting us know - the more folders who are active on the forum the higher the visibility of the team and (potentially) the more people we can get folding

    Re: Folding Chit-Chat

hmmm, a lot more if i am honest. I had to get the parts from multipul shops and i really don't want to do the maths to add it all up.

The screens alone were just shy of £400.

I live in Dubai and while they say it is tax free (yeah right!!) you pay a lot more for things in the long run.

I think next time i will get my stuff back in the UK and ship it (or maybe the US) but then i have to worry about import duties.

    Re: Folding Chit-Chat

Yowch! That's a smoking system. Dread to think what temps you're folding in before you even start to crank the handle.

Did I see in another post you'd got it up to 4.4Ghz? What are you actually folding on? CPU & 580's or just the 580's?

My head's full of cold today, and I'm stoked up with Beechams etc. You know - Manflu

Soemtimes having a folding sweatshop is actually useful.... One less room to heat, and me and Ruffus likes to come and nap in here too!

    Re: Folding Chit-Chat

Currently just folding on the 580s. I may try all 3 tonight (2 GPUs and the CPU). If nothing else it will be a good stability test for the system.

The issues i have with heat is keeping it outside where it belongs. Dubai get VERY hot in summer (last summer i saw 53c in the car on the way to get a haircut). I have my aircon set to 23c. My office 'gaming room' gives me an odd sensation. Hots legs cold top half

Blech, dogs* - do you not get hair in all your PCs? How many bits of PCs are there in there? I think I count 4, maybe 5?

*disclaimer: whenever asked about my opinions on dogs I will vehemently insist that they are a pointless pet and I can't understand what anyone sees in them. My actual behaviour when seen with dogs may appear to contradict this opinion, but simply reflects that fact that I have no problem with dogs as animals in their own right: just not in my house!

I like Dog's my one has skin cancer right now so I know I will have to have her put to sleep sometime this year
I also like cats, problem is they don't like me they stare at you like the only difference between you and their next meal is that you will put up more of a fight, and my nose doesn't like them much either it always runs when I see them lol

    Also Tatty, nice boom box

    Re: Folding Chit-Chat

Really want to upgrade my graphics card, for various reasons, and really struggling to decided which to go for.

Is the ppd difference between the Red and Green camp that great? I mean, if I go green, would I be able to fold for less time and still get the same points through? Mrs Teamsreth is concerned that I will leave it on all the time, but if I can cut down on the time, but still get through some WUs, that would be good.

Or, I might leave it on longer and do more.....

Either 560 or 6950. Tough choice.

I don't think cats like me either, dogs are normally warm and welcoming. Cats just stare and try to get sly scratches in. Also dogs crap in their own garden and stay on the floor! xD
Nope, not a cat person myself, love dogs though.

    Re: Folding Chit-Chat

For folding, Nvidia are the only cards really worth folding on ATM. The PPD/Watt value is much better on them. I mean that might (hopefully) change soon, it's nothing to do with AMD cards being worse, just the F@H software for them is badly out of date.
Personally I would base your decision on your main use (I assume gaming) and f@h performance would be a bonus. But I know plenty of folders don't think that way.

    Re: Folding Chit-Chat

Go for Nvidia folding on and ATI card is like trying to push a lorry up a hill using you little finger.
The Nvidia option will give you greater efficiency, also you can still use the 560 for gaming, if you want to

There's only 3 PC#s in that room of mine. I also have an amiga 1200, Amiga 600 and an ITX box I was building for my god son off camera behind me. I need to have a good clear out.

Regarding hair, it's a problem, but I have dust filters pretty much on all the boxes. Most of them don't stay up long enough to accumulate any hairballs. I do service (read: tinker or intefere) regularly.

Back right is my server in the Antec 900 case (Asus P6T/Intel 980X/NVidia GTX 295).
On the table is my Corsair Obsidian 700D box (Asus RIIE/Intel 970/GTX 480 SLI) on the floor is the box that the server will go into (HAF 932) to improve cooling and accomodate more HD's (Currently 3x1TB Storage in Raid 5) Gonna add 2 more drives in as I'm running out of space!
