ok i tried a pci usb card in both slots in the top slot all works fine in the bottom slot it freezes on the post screen and does nothing so looks like a board or bios issue

    hope this helps

    to both of you

Being serious I do want to sell at least one of my 7900gt's so I can upgrade to an 8800, trouble is I think I'd stand to loose to much money on it. Oh well such is the march of technology.

Agreed there are a great many issues I have found with this board, regarding its ocing and bugs. One day as I mentioende arlier I cna overclock like mad, the next the same oc wont work.

I am liasing with abit now on a new BIOS update to get these flaws corrected.

    cheers

I am having serious problems with this board. In fact it's practically unuseable.

    1. Freezing at the post screen. Sometimes takes four or five attempts to boot correctly. This happens even at stock speeds.

    2. Alarms (Hi-Lo) going off for no apparent reason at start up. Voltages, temps etc are well within limits in Abit EQ and PCHealth in the bios. Also happens at stock speeds.

    3. Random restarts in windows. Again, happens at stock as well.

    4. Only display driver 93.71 picks up sli. This has serious implications for me as that set of drivers have some sort of incompatiability with my 7800gt's which wipes out most of their performance. eg, Using Company of Heroes built in benchmark my 939 rig with 91.47 drivers would score an average of 45fps. This rig with exactly the same settings only gets 16.5fps making it completely unplayable. The same can be said for the rest of my games.

    5. Overclocking. One day i can get to 3 ghz and have it run Orthos for 12 hours with no fails. Yesterday it would'nt even boot so i had to drop back to 2.7ghz. It would'nt go past 3ghz no matter what voltages i gave it.

The lower pci slot appears to work as i have a Audigy 2ZS in there and it was detected correctly and i do have sound.

I have now given up on this board. To my mind it should not have been released until Abit had a stable bios for it. There's not even any drivers or anything for it on Abits website. It's really not good enough. This is now going back for a refund under the DSR's as it really is not fit for use.

The rest of my rig is as follows:-
    E4300
    2GB Geil Ultra PC2-6400 CL4
    2x BFG 7800GT O/C
    Soundblaster Audigy 2ZS
    Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB Sata2 hdd
    Samsung 18X Sata Dvdrw
    MSI CR52 Cdrw
    Seasonic S12 650w Energy+ psu

CPU and graphics cards are on high end water cooling with cpu temps around 10 degrees on both cores at idle, 40 degrees after 12 hours Orthos. I am in Scotland, it's freezing cold and have a triple rad mounted on a windowsill with the window open. Temps taken from core temp as TAT does'nt work with the 4300.

with mine the beeping was the ddr2 voltage my geil ultras like 2.1 at cas 4 and the boards high ddr voltage alarm is set for 2.03v which is a bit low

secondly i have mine running trouble free but only at 2.66ghz and with my memory unlinked

i tried linked as gilgamesh told me unlinked was pants but she random crashes with it unlinked and at 2.66 she has not given me any kind of error yet although i wanted at least 2.8-3ghz out of it she will run orthos for 10-12 hrs fine and then randomly she will bsod while loading up firefox or something stupid like that

shame this board was looking very promising

also pastymuncher that score on company of heroes is really really bad i have a 7900gt which is not that much quicker than a 7800gt and i get 63fps average

I had my DDR voltage set to 2.1v as recommended by Geil. Games were completely unplayable. As for company of heroes, it all depends on what settings and res you use. I ran it at 1280x1024 and with everything as high as possible. Both rigs were at the same settings though.

It's gone back now and i am getting a refund. I will have to wait until i can afford a 8800 series card now and then get something like a DS3. There's no way i am paying through the nose for a 680i board so that i can run in Sli. This has certainly put me off buying an Abit board for a while.

well, if you're going to buy any enthusiast board in it's first week you can expect some problems - just depends upon whether you're going to wait for them to be fixed or not.

gonna wait abit are generally really good with there boards plus i cant be ar***
to go through the hassle of switching mine again

plus i can runa any game at high settings with my core 2 at 2.66 with my 7900gt as my tft is only 1280x1024

plus even with the bugs its way better than my last board

gonna have to add to the complaints about this board.

I am having big probelms with usb keyboard and mouse when overclocking. I am also finding overclocking really problematic. I just cant get a decent FSB out of it.

    Currently running at 277 (1109) * 9 = 2.497

I have got cpu voltage at 1.4 and nb at 1.35 and i cant up the fsb any higher!!!!

i tried dropping the multipler down to 6 and i still cant get it higher. Really dissapointed. Need a new bios or Wendel is going back.

    Using a 4300 + artic cooling freezer 7 pro.

Agreed. You'll also have to whack the NB & Cpu VTT voltages up to max to get a decent fsb ocverclock.

Hi guys. ive had this board a few days now - my thoughts -

This board is lacking. it requires [Massive] NB + CPUVTT voltages to get a decent FSB. im brick walling @ 366Mhz (which is stable).

    my Spec

    E6400
    Abit FP-IN9
    Crucial Ballistix pc5300 2GB Kit

gilgamesh - in your initial thoughts you said it looks like this board wil OC well. from my impressions this is NOT the case.

i have heard that reseating the NB and ASing it may help but even still - this wont reduce the chipset demands for higher voltage to hit the FSB - it will only serve to keep the chipset cooler at higher FSB?

can you confirm what abit are going to do, whether this is fixable and whether 400mhz FSB is actually going to be achievable on this board?
