Anyone else noticed the NB heatsink to be awfully warm? I've just opened up my case after som gaming and my heatsink on the NB is really warm. Anyone tried to put a fan on it and what size then?

I am using w/c on my cpu so I don't have a draft from there that can cool it.

    Should I use a 50mm fan?

I just set an 80mm fan on top of my gfx card which cooled it down considerably. If you want to try and mount directly to it then yes, a 50mm is the perfect width...

i currently have my case on its side and a 40mm cheapo fan sat on top held in place by rolled up cellotape. does wonders for the nb temps before i put it on it was too hot to touch when oc'ed. now its a lot cooler and when idle is just warm. im tring to work out a way to attach it so that i can stand my case up properly but i also need to reseat the nb with some AS on there in place of the thermal pad currenly on there.

only thing is i am waiting for a stable bios to decide if i want to keep the board before getting round to all that - so for now its just sat with a 40mm lying on it and its doing a decent job.

Yeah, I can understand that. hm, might it be possible to use some stripes to hold i in place. Maybe even screwing it on.

Btw, how have the cooling of NB done to your overclocking? As it's now I can get my e6600 to 3ghz stable sometimes and not stable sometimes and also when I am running Test Drive unlimited it just hangs. Sometimes after 10 minutes and sometimes after hours of playing. I don't know what's up with that.

I'm hoping like everyone else that a good bios will resolve this kind of thing. I haven't done a whole bunch of OC lately with this rig as it is aircooled for now. When I did try to push it with my freezone it was not very consistant. For now it's been relegated to secondary rig with minor OC of 3150 on a 6600.

not done anything for my OC, i cant get stable above 375FSB for love nor money.

it could be the cpu - but i doubt it, and its certainly not the ram.

the most frustrating is the POST hang, where it only finds 1cpu (should read 2) and stops on the EMT64 line...poweroff poweron and it boots up perfectly?!

    Danke!

i have tried both Bios's, and am sticking with 11 for now.

bios 12b just wont boot up at higher FSB and im only talking 375 or so!

bios 11 still not stable above 375fsb - but is a lot more likely to boot from a reset than 12b which needs POWER ON/OFF until it does actually boot!

so all in all no change really.

    edit:

on B11, i have had much more sucess booting up and softreset with 1500FSB which pleases me.

however, at 1600FSB (NB 1.5, CPU 1.4 CPU VTT 1.5) when i was running superPI i got a hard reset - never happened before - previously i just got a system lock up. is this symptomatic of bad cpu or bad board?

I've seem to have gotten it stable at 350 with 1.4v to cpu, 2.0 to ddr, cpu vtt 1,42 and nb 1.5. DRR is in linked mode. Hm, how much is safe voltage to pump to the cpu? According to Abit EQ temps are around 48 degrees C, but using systool which is reading the core temp I am hitting 65 degrees C. All this is under 2 threads of Super-Pi 32m.
