Hmmm
Probably for the Nvidia capture cards only.
Or, do you suppose it's hardware assist for software based encoding?

ALL the new cards support MPEG encoding, not only the capture cards.
Just so you all know that Hardware Assist = Software Based Decoding/Encoding which dosen't even come close to ture Hardware Based Decoding/Encoding.
For me in min way the ATI 550 Pro is top notch card depending on the source input.
For Example TimeWaner vs Dishnetwork
On TimeWaner I was see a lot diff artefacts like Flicker, Straight Bar Line in a Soild Color, Dot Crawl, Wavy Line, Cross Colouration ever Flicker color, Mosquito and other odd ball artefacts which I haven't fig out what hell there are and it made no diff what input I use with PVR 250, 500 and ATI even with the so called TimeWaner Digital Channel they still look like carp vs Dishnetwork.
Don't get me wrong but the ATI advanced prosesing dose help with image clean up with some artefacts like Dot Crawl only with the Tuner for some off wall reason the composite dosen't seem work rigth with the TimeWaner Receiver but I have gotting around check with a VCR or DVD player I know it was working find with Dishnetwork box.
No I'm petty sure blakev it has nothing do with excessive heat if that where ture then all input would be doing it on the ATI 550 Pro.
The only problem I find is the ATI has gainey look to it which I do not like and fact that it dosen't have a sharper picture and too-quiet audio vs FM playing.
Also I wish they stop the BS proprietary carp which from what I heard on grapevine ATI drivers don't seem be support the two generic directshow methods (IAMStreamConfig or IEncoderAPI), which is strange considering the IEncoderAPI approach is mandatory for MCE support from what I heard.

What "carp". Let's hope ATi do the right thing and bolt any dev for the 550 Pro chip, for whatever platform, onto the drivers for all products using the chip. Unified driver architecture being what it is, this isn't asking too much.Originally Posted by e.lectronick
Gosh, this thread is long, but it certainly gets the job done, re:
What "carp"#2, especially that, if the grapevine is true, once again they don't conform to their targeted MCE platform.Originally Posted by SHSPVR
No visibility for delivery from NO, I'm afraid. Glad you got yours spacedead, sad it didn't reach any parts that other cards can't reach.
Since I was the "grapevine" and even posted the same info here a couple of weeks back, I should point out in ATI's defence that since I originally had this bitrate problem (using IAMStreamConfig or IEncoderAPI) they have supplied information on how to achieve the same thing using another standard directshow approach, and this issue has been resolved. ATI have been very helpful.

The main reason I bought a 550 Pro was for the LIVE TV picture quality in MCE.
The only stumbling block for me is that for live TV the picture quality of MCE is not as good as normal STB to to TV. Therefore I am reluctant to use the MCE interface 100% for TV watching even though i really like it.
I guess I hoped the so called incredible ATI features, comb filters 2nd generation etc etc hype would make the picture at least as good as my regular TV but I was wrong.
Until the Picture quality is as good as regular TV none of the PC based PVR progs will really catch on as you have to change to your 'normal' TV input to get the best picture. For everything else MCE is superb IMO recording TV shows, watching DVDs music etc.
Its funny but the recorded TV progs seem better quality than the 'LIVE' Tv pictures
Oh well back to the drawing board , hope some decent drivers come out for it!! I'm amazed Microsoft are allegedly going on about how great this card is as it really isnt that big a deal and certainly wont shift more MCE systems
if people check the picture quality first
sub what was the other standard directshow approach are you ref to?.
Looks like this thread might have finally died!!
RIP
What the heck ever happened to the ATI guys? Weren't we supposed to see some answers to our questions?
Oh, it's not dead. Not yet, anyway...It's me...
(paraphrasing Obi Wan, in case nobody got the reference)
Apparently, there's still much going on behind the scenes with the ATI guys. I guess they don't want to post anything public until they have some new things to say.
All the same, I'd like to hear from them too. You're right Backlund, we never did hear any answers to our long list of questions...
Hey Andrzej, you out there?
There's hope with ATi partners, it seems, in keeping AGP alive, no matter what ATi does.Originally Posted by e.lectronick

Oh yeah, if anyone's interested....
I've been bugging ATi for some visibility on SECAM.
I even quoted them some of this:
http://www.microtune.com//news/2005R...s/011305.shtml
and this
http://www.microtune.com/products/MT2050_Series.html
The answer:
ATi Help desk: "If there is a specific driver to enable NTSC/PAL tuner capablilties for your Theatrix card it would come from Sapphire not ATI. The ATI Theatre 550 is NTSC only. If Sapphire is producing a version capable of both formats they are the best source for information and the appropriate drivers."
I should have guessed this all by myself, of course. So I'm off to bug Sapphire.
All this and I still don't have the * card. What's happening in NO?
The ATI driver supports PAL
