The quad core Bulldozer CPUs have the same amount of L3 cache as the 6 core and 8 core versions. AMD did the same thing with the Phenom II and the Phenom II X2 has the highest amount of L3 cache per core.

Depends on they're just disabling cores surely? I thought the quads were only 'up to' 8mb, so it would depend if they were binned cores or dedicated two core designs maybe?

I think a lot of that has to do with Windows constantly moving threads between cores ...

Indeed. I believe Intel have better driver support for this, as well as being able to put individual cores into low power state - something AMD weren't able to do with Phenom. I anticipate Bulldozer being much better in that regard...

If the Scorpius platform is meant to be a Zambezi CPU, a 9 series motherboard and Radeon 6000 graphics, do you think they'll change it to Radeon 7000 graphics as they are right around the corner?

Although in that video, he did say that the 6950 was part of the FX platform, so maybe I read that some of the 7000 cards were going to be branded FX also.

By the looks of things, that processor has stock air cooling. I wonder how it compares against the rather poor Intel stock coolers.

Doubt it - they'll probably come up with a catchy new name for the same platform with a different GPU, and we'll all be arguing over whether you should go for a Scorpius build or a Spartacus build...

Stock cooler looks like a heatpipe jobby - probably the same as the one they used to send out with top end Phenoms, iirc...?

Kind of... in all fairness to AMD, they havent actually officially given out dates and masses of information most of the hype has been created with leaks and rumors.

Do you think the 9 series motherboards will have PCI-e 3.0 inclusion? I don't know if it's necessary (i.e., the bandwidths are needed) but still, it's nice to have current gen tech

The bandwidths on PCIe 2.0 are already crazy, I don't think PCIe 3.0 is going to be a major concern for a good while yet.

Im not exactly sure of the difference between X and FX but i would assume its how many lanes of PCI-E are available to the various slots in SLI and CrossfireX i.e. you can run 16x + 8x on the 990X instead of full 16x + 16x on the FX. The 970 doesnt come with X-fire or SLI.

Just overclock the PCI-e bus for some more 'width.
