So, minecraft. I finally bought a copy and Allen has kindly granted me access. Is there a sandbox I can be kept in and a guide for me to read while I'm there? Where do I start!?! Argh!

Go punch a tree! No, really, that's the first thing to do. Punch tree to get wood, use wood to make crafting table, craft wooden pickaxe, dig, craft stone pickaxe, dig, find ore and coal, make furnace, smelt ore, make iron armor+sword+pick, dig more, hope for diamond, find epic underground cave, get blown up by a creeper and knocked into lava. Start over.

As for a sandbox, the entire game is a sandbox. You can either play around a bit on single player or join the server and play around - just try not to blow up people's creations with creepers!

Has anyone managed to find a fix for the 'Minecraft has run out of memory' problem? Seems its only happening on my Windows PC and on my Mac its fine.

Also, I'd love to join this server.. Will PM Allen when im not in class!

Here's the beginner's guide from minecraft wiki. That wiki is packed with info and if you play minecraft for any length of time I guarantee you'll be looking stuff up on there.

I think I might start work on an amphitheatre just outside the main village. A room of private chests so we can stash any goods before entering the arena, then we can PVP in appropriate surroundings

We're still getting mobs spawning in the second village..

Not enough light around the place, or have I missed something?

Is it just too big to secure perhaps?

The outside of the wall needs securing now too - lit Netherack & Cactus?

have you put torches on the roofs of the houses? we where getting mobs spawning on the roofs in the first village until I stuck torches up.
