    Re: Minecraft?

Just popped on to see what was happening; didn't recognise any of it! Is it a new world, or if it isn't, where's the original bits we built? Followed the railway, but that ended up at a NPC village.

    Re: Minecraft?

    It's a new world.

Allen has the old world is backed up somewhere safe. I was worried about all the effort I put into the old world, but after a week or so of playing in the new one, I'd forgotten all about it.

No problem. Wasn't sure whether to track down the old part for materials. I've expanded the villiage walls to make a start on my place.

The old world is still on the server, unfortunately I haven't yet had time to set up the portal system so you can go visit it if you want to. After my move next week I will see if I have the time and energy to do it.

    Re: Minecraft?

I'm slowly starting to build up the link from village 2 to the stronghold - the stronghold now has a good wall around it, and there is now a well lit path back to the village... Just need a lot of glass to finish enclosing it all

I notice that someone has unearthed a bit of a chasm next village 2 at the rear - good job, but you left the entrance you dug into the village completely open, lol I've opened it up a bit and put a door on it

I've nearly completed the defensive firewall around the village, I've just got a few gaps left to fill in so the endermen don't keep nicking bits of the wall..

I guess it's all progress of a kind

Na, this was on the other side, near the pond

I've started a mob trap btw - the basic killing section is in place with the collection point inside the village (2), I've started working on the mob spawning area above it now, which will hopefully funnel them down to the kill box once I've finished it

It might take a while though - it's 50x50 blocks, and I've got to build the floor up to 5 blocks thick, then put the roof on it.. might take a while...

    Re: Minecraft?

Be warned enderman can play havoc with mob traps, building a floor 5 blocks thick will slow them up, but will not stop them from wrecking water flow channels.

I've noticed a few tings about endermen:
They cannot remove a brick that has a sign attached to it.
They cannot remove a brick with water on top of it.
They can remove a brick with water flowing next to it.
I'm not sure but I think they cannot place a brick in water.
I don't think they can move half bricks.

I think you can safe guard water channels like this
    ## . . ##
    ## . . ##
    #_~ ~_#
    ######

    Cross section diagram, #=full block, _=half block, ~=water, .=emptyspace
You cannot place a full block on a half block but you can place it on the side of the block behind.
You cannot cover the spawn area in half blocks to protect it as that will also stop mobs spawning.

    Make a cobble generator?

Means you can get cobble when you want and you dont have to go miles away to get it and I'm guessing if done right, you can get multiple cobble blocks at a time

I did a small scale one in the other village, but tbh, it's easier to just demolish a nearby mountain

    Re: Minecraft?

No, I don't mean cave exploration, I mean digging a shaft down to bedrock, if you encounter a cave just brick up the area and keep digging down.

Once you've hit bed rock you can star side tunnels off the shaft, lava is fairly rare just ontop of bedrock, it occures more about 10 block up, but so do metal, coal and other minerals, so you do end up with more cobble stone than other good stuff when tunneling just about bedrock.
