    Re: Minecraft?

yep, got into all those mods with the technic pack but since the better option is FTB, it's all i've used since i found out about it. i don't think i could play vanilla anymore. if you're looking into playing it then be prepared to learn a lot of new stuff!

Anyone interested in starting out with a new server? I can set one up if there is enough interest in exploring something new.

    Re: Minecraft?

I'd be up for it esp if it's tekkit or similar, I'd vote for tekkit classic as that still has Equivalent Exchange in it, the energy condenser is still the best way to deal with all the material a quarry generates.

    Re: Minecraft?

I have been doing some research into tekkit and FTB. I want to have a 'long' game, so FTB with Gregtech appeals to me. From what I have read EE is a little unbalanced. FTB has Thaumcraft, which adds a similar theme to explore. I'm thinking of using the Mindcrack package because of all the useful videos online. Let me know what you think.

I should have a server going within the next few days. I will make sure it runs for an extended period. I won't shut it off and erase anyone's work without discussing it here first, but I plan to be using it for a while.

Definitely interested here too, though I likely need to brush up on the additions and various mods that have been added / come out since the last time I played (which was quite a while ago).

    Re: Minecraft?

EE is only unbalanced towards the end with the solar collector things and a bug with blaze rods and bone values.

The condenser is a great item, the basis is every item and energy has a value, if wood has a value of 8 and cobblestone a value of 1 then you can change 8 cobblestone into one wood or 1 wood into 8 cobblestone, you still have to have the material in the first place.
The energy link was the other key bit I love for EE because it can convert "energy" from industrial craft, build craft and blue electricity into any one of them in a fairly simple way.

the solar collectors things work like solar panels turning light into energy but that energy can be turned into matter It's massively costly to set up but once you get one you can just leave it running on a server come back a couple of days later and you've got enough energy to make make a 2nd, two days after that you've got 4 . . . etc etc and that's when it falls apart.
exploiting the bone/blaze rod bug is as bad, you can macerate them into powder but the value of the powder is higher than the value of the original object, so again an exponential loop to generate mass value you can turn into other things.

The newest version of tekkit has EE removed from it.

Voltz looks interesting but everything in that is stupidly resource hungry with no easy way to gather resources and some of the high end stuff in that is stupidly powerful and world/server destroying.

    FTB? which mod is that?

    FTB=Feed The Beast.

It has most of the same mods as Tekkit, with a couple of additions.

    Re: Minecraft?

    Server is up!

Looks like a nice Autumn Biome for the spawn.

The Feed the Beast Launcher can be downloaded from: http://feed-the-beast.com.
Select the 'Mindcrack Pack v.8.2.0' and launch. It will install and start the game.

PM me with your user name for server details.

    I'm off to punch wood.

    Re: Minecraft?

    PM sent
I had a look at FTB today, it's good, pretty much the same as tekkit, it lacks EE but so does the new version of tekkit, one thing the new version of tekkit has which is so good is a variant of treecapitator, which means that when you cut any block of a tree with an axe the whole thing comes down in one (and uses up a large chunk of durability) which is one thing I've always wanted in tekkit.

    Re: Minecraft?

    That sounds awesome!

There is an Axe of the Stream in Thaumcraft which does something similar.

    Re: Minecraft?

Need to read up on thaumcraft, so many new ores from that one.

I finished the basic farm, wheat and corn for food and flax for string, I'll be adding carrots and pumpkins soon and melons if I can get the seeds
feel free to pinch food from the chest at the foot of my tree, you can use string and sticks to make canvas from which you can make bags to increase your inventory

@Bagnaj, I moved the machines about and built a proper building for them, still a work in progress, I've left a bunch of signs about which are general notes to remind me what needs doing. ps present in your chest
