Blitzen.. Your post comes across as racist weather you like it or not.
And also.. Muslims can be pakistani/english/russian/turkish/scottish/black/white/green whatever. You seem to think all Muslims are pakistani, and all whites are christian?

Personally I'm far more worried about being knifed to death of a night out by a bunch of pissed up white chavs than I am by any perceived threat from an essentially peaceful minority religion. I've got no more problem with people being Muslim than I have with them being Christian, neither of which faith I believe in at all.
Agreed. I would rather walk past a mosque with 1000 muslims in at night, than walk past a pub with 2 drunk people outside.
It's a shame people even read 'the scum' newspaper and other murdoch controlled papers. From a few news stories slating muslims, they can make up thier opinions on over 1.8 billion muslims.

I think that Blitzen has some very valid points, don't agree with all of them. But I also think that his opinion is very much the opinion of a growing majority of the non-muslim population. Many "liberal" people are finding it VERY challenging of late to maintain their more left-wing opinions because it seems like everywhere you turn someone, a muslim or the media, is accusing of racism or islamic extremism or of critising islam. The more these attitudes are directed at people the more people start to think "what a horrible religion this islam must be"... it isn't! a good friend of mine just married a young chap from pakistan and her wedding was beautiful! the dress, all the henna and the ceremony. Also, contrary to what people may expect, both the man and the woman are seperated to begin with and are asked 3 (? maybe someone can correct me there if I'm wrong) times if they have any doubts and such, so in some ways it more rigorous than traditional christian weddings it removes the influence of others.
I think people need to keep open minds, and that goes for Muslims to. I think that Muslims have to remember... this is Europe, its not a collection of muslim states and of course things are different here. Europeans don't understand your relgion! help us, show us the nicer aspects of it (like the weddings) because all we are hit with at the moment its extremism and violence, bring some balance!

Despite what the media show, it is a very peaceful religion about having good hygiene, having a pure heart, caring for the poor/orphans etc
Blitzen, can you send me my GTX before the fatwa is imposed please?
Blitzen - tell me, where in Cambridgeshire would you consider to be a 'no go' area for people not of a particular religion? If not in Cambridgeshire, where else in the UK?
Separately, to counterpoint your suggestion, I would suggest that there are large (mainly rural) areas of the UK which might be considered 'no go' areas for non-whites. (Norfolk, I'm looking at you...)
did anyone watch the programme on C4 last nite about the Quran??
it was very interesting, and one of the main points was about the spead of the Saudi version of the book, that is essetially right wing propergana.
it showed footage of Cairo in 1974 and there was not a single veiled woman in sight. and footage from 2007 and there was not an unveiled woman in sight. the right wing saudi view of islam is speading fast, a bit like events in europe in the 1930s.
islam isnt bad, but people have been brain washed somewhat.
ohh... and enyone who calls blitzen's post racist, is misguided. as race is nothing to do with religion, which is the problem here.

I don't want to pick out any individuals at this stage, but there is far to much name-calling in this thread.
It stops. Now. Okay?
Discuss the issues, disagree with points. But knock off the insults. It's against our rules, and if it carries on, will be dealt with. Guys, you're all capable of discussing emotive issues and strongly held viewpoints without turning it personal. Please do so.
I'm a big white boy in london, a city i didn't grow up in. I wouldn't walk round brixton, new cross gate, walthemstow after dark on my own. Even thou i no longer have to wear a suite (which i always felt made you a target).
I've yet to find one thats religion based. Here's one thats racist. Its more likely you'll be stabbed by someone who is black, than someone who is white, this much is true in london at the very least.
Its a shocking fact, which i think goes to show how bad our ghettoisation can be amongst the poorer sectors of our community. But i don't think religion has ANYTHING to do with it. Hell even if they all turned tom cruse, if it cut the theft & violence i'd probably be in favour of it.
When you look at the majority of people who are commiting the knife crime in london, if any relgion is attributed to them at all, its mostly CoE or another christianity.
Sorry blitzen, you're not in the real world if you think violence is a part of the every day intrepretation of the qua'an.

Very sensible post j1979 - People who claim Islam is a religion of peace and love completely disregard what has actually happened in the Middle East since repatriation.
It's like saying that Christianity is a religion of selflessness and unity, conveniently forgetting modern Televangicals telling viewers that aids is God's punishment for gays and reprobates, or indeed the Crusades.
However saying that Blitzen's post didn't sound a little racist is a quite bizarre… somewhere in the distance Bernard Manning turned in his grave.8. Immigrants made up 8.7% of the population, but accounted for10.2% of all collected income tax - Immigrants maybe. Pakistani Muslims.............nah.
