I'm supposed to have 40 - but I am streaming a hd quality (apparently) tv program at the moment...

Historically I did find some of the speed test servers varied, but I tried a couple just now and they were around the same....
I'm clearly the winner here :S
Virgin (ex-Telewest) cable. The best our BT line ever gave on Sky 2Mb was 0.5 Mb.
its awesome to know that 94% of GB is slower than me
yeah that dont look right didnt the engineer test the line when fitted.
IIRC it can take a day or two for the speed to ramp up - see how it goes over the next day or two (the call centres may be on holiday anyway?), and phone if there's no improvement.
Edit: Yeah DLM can occasionally trigger, causing the above. Try to avoid rebooting the modem unnecessarily as that can apparently mess with it too.

I'll give it a day or two: here's this morning's result:
So we're getting somewhere.
tbf it's the consistent up speed I want from fibre anyway (going to start running my own web/mail server for side projects) so I'd be pretty happy with 20/20 anyway, but I suspect the speed is being ramped slowly and will improve. At the old place I couldn't get over 20mbps at busy times thanks to over-contention on the exchange anyway (and it never crept over 40, despite me theoretically being on 80/20 there).
Anyway, I'll keep testing and posting over the next couple of days. The main takeaway from this is that I've got regular internet access again!

Here is mine.
Because I get 20mbps bidirectional access with 20ms ping? Given I remember how unbearably exciting it was when I was first able to get ADSL to my own home, at a blazing 512kbps down (iirc it was 128kbps up), you'll excuse me for thinking I'm not doing too badly
Besides, some of us don't have any other option - no fibre on my street (despite it being one of the main roads through a residential area of suburban Manchester )
