Re: Your broadband speed - post here

They have been trialling fibre services about a mile from my exchange but confirmed nothing is on the horizon for 2012 hence my search for a fibre provider weighing up between Sky and BT. There is a mass exodus of users as most only joined them as their were 'cutting-edge' when joined up, since lost that status big time.

Do you use P2P on Talk Talk? If so any idea on actual down / up speeds.

Yep, I do. I see around 5mb, though as I use a private tracker, i'm pretty sure I'm limited by peers.

Being doubled by Virginmedia in July, at no extra cost. Can't Complain. Very little downtime and it meets my needs perfectly.

Re: Your broadband speed - post here

Guy just been to replace the Moto modem with the 'super' hub - put straight into modem mode by me obviously. Don't know why they wouldn't just post it to me, despite me asking, said it had to be an engineer install. AFAIK he didn't do anything in the cabinet, I just spent ages trying to explain why he couldn't access it with 192.168.0.1 as I have a *nix router facing the LAN with that address, then didn't seem to realise how a switch worked, and got confused when ARP poisoning messages from ESET started popping up. But I digress...

'Doubled' from 20 to 60 although upload is a bit low, higher than it was though.
Edit: Seems it's locked at 3Mbps upload. Bit strange considering I had 10:1 on 20Mbps...

Edit, I've spotted an error on the modem status page, there are 4 channels locked, each supposedly at 55616000 Kbits/sec...
Somebody been substituting bits for kbits, possibly the same guy who substituted kcal for cal...

Very slow in my area TBH and no upgrades planned until well after 2015 - It does list my ISP as Plusnet but I thought I was with Tiscali.... IDK :S

Re: Your broadband speed - post here

Not bad watercooled! I just went from 10mb/s to the new 60mb/s (new contract),

Can tell you now the reason we are stuck at 3mb/s upload is that the upgrade to the network (or is it a lie...) isnt finished/done in your area yet, mine is due october - june 2013 which is when the upload will be improved to 1 : 10 again, only reason i can is that they have download bandwidth available but the network cant handle more upload hence the improvements needed and that you can actually get the new double speeds etc now instead of waiting till your areas time slot.

happy with my speed so far, havent used it a great deal yet so cant comment on slowdown during the day but its been speedy, i can finally stream 1080p videos no issue!!! Used to have to stream 480p tops on my 10mb . Best of all is the massive 10gb download between 10am - 3pm and the 5gb for the evening (4pm - 9pm) and even then the throttle is only 50% i.e down to 30mb! It was painful being throttled from 10mb --> 2.5 it was intolerable .

Its funny that this new line is faster to download than getting things off my external drive...

And the above is with an i-plate fitted in the phone socket and adjusting the signal/noise ratio in my modem. Without this I sync at about 1.3Mbps. However I'm getting 40/2 FTTC installed tomorrow.

I've tried this test 3 times now and got different results each time. Sometimes iplayer will buffer playing normal SD stuff, even though my connection should be more than fast enough. HD is currently out of the question of course.
