Does the number of people on the street who also have BT infinity not effect the download and upload speeds?
I am waiting for BT infinity to be active on my street but it seems like those who have X gb package are not getting near this value.

A couple of factors can impact the VDSL speed you get; distance from the cabinet, quality of the wiring in the street and in your house, and yes the number of people can also have an impact, especially for longer lines.
More people using FTTC means more crosstalk in the wiring cabinet - telephone cables aren't shielded so they can cause and receive interference fairly easily. However the profile BT are currently using is still somewhat conservative, and speed only tends to drop with a fairly busy cabinet and/or longer lines where the SNR will be lower. Vectoring should help with this in the future.
Distance can have a dramatic effect on VDSL speeds too; after 500m or so the speed starts to drop of fairly rapidly, at just over a km you're pretty much back down to ADSL2 speeds.
Wiring quality can have an impact too, for instance loose connections or degraded cable, although the engineer setting it up for you should notice any significant problems like that. The wiring in your house can also have an impact, DIY phone extensions being one notable source of problems, so if they're not needed, it's best to remove them.
almost makes me feel bad
I cant post links, but mines, D:3.5 U:0.4
Mines very very poor.... you never know, might be in the two thirds who will get fibre before the end of 2014?!?
hmmm, getting up to around 30mbps down today - might give it another week yet
I seem to get these speeds day and night so can't complain.
10mb down/1mb up
Speed on Wifi so not bad.
I get between 6 and 8 Mbps which I'm very happy with being in rural Northumberland. Talk Talk only promise up to 8. Bog all 3G up here though. Your more likely to get Kenny G.
76mb fibre broadband with plus.net
Very reliable & stable connection
