    Clockwork Killa

There seems to be some incompatibilities with Be there ane different routers however if its based on the broadcom chipset then it "should" be ok.... other routers will connect if they have a different chipset however you might get a really low connection speed.

it is one cable to the BT socket if thats what you mean. The guys at BE reckon my access points range is too weak and they also increased my noise level? something like that i think. previously the range of my access points have been fine, if indeed that is the case, my own theory is that the Bebox itself has poor range or is simply not that good when used as a router, but i dunno, i`m only guessing here. my own PC connection has been good last few days, no cut outs at all, but saying that my brother has just come down to ask me if the net is working as his cut out on his laptop. He has got a low connection, but with our previous router the connection was fine. which again leads me to believe the Bebox as a router may need improving.

i dont want to put off anyone using BE, the speeds have been good and as i mentioned earlier the technical support has been the best i have ever received. and other users may not receive the problems i did.

As Lee said the connection could vary from one socket to another.

My Be connection went live yesterday and from the master socket I get 4.5 Mb connection speed with a really low SNR reading....

From an extension I get over 12 Mb so not sure whats going on there - not really fussed as the speed from the extension is fine for what I use it for - just means I have to reroute a few cables.

    hmm...... decisions..... decisions........
You can have a static ip of Be unlimited at no extra cost i.e. £18 a month with static ip, i got mine switched the other day, reduces any problems with reaching DHCP server that a lot of people had been experiencing, mine was always stable but now i notice less erorrs on my connection

Just thought i'd put this image up for those wondering about speed etc. It shows the speed you should be syncing at depending on your attenuation and line length...

Theres no logic to how phone lines are routed. Even being on top of the exchange, your line might take a trip around the local sights before making it back to the exchange.

My straightline distance indicated I should be getting 10+, but I only get 3.6 mbps or so.

Been thinking of moving over to Be for a while although i'm still not certain what speed i will get either. Had a look at my router settings and my line attenuation is:

    DS Line Attenuation 63
    US Line Attenuation 23
    Us Rate (Kbps) 288
    Ds Rate (Kbps) 2272
    US Margin 28
    DS Margin 22

I inputted this into various checkers and seems i can get 8mb or so on a couple of tests, 2mb on another and 4mb on another. None the wiser.
Still mulling over joining BE...interesting thread this one.

    Cheers, Roo

I have always wondered how much it would cost to rent a flat above the telephone exchange

    Re: BeThere.co.uk - Wow

Switched to Be on friday, patching DDO was 3.5 times faster, peaking at 360kbps rather than 110kbps

was rather impressed, even if their router has a horrible interface...

Don't know if this is helpful... but my line was quoted at 5Mbps on a postcode/nearest exchange lookup site, and I'm getting 7-8Mbps on Be Value Point is that if you've looked at various checkers and you're getting an average of around 5 overall, I reckon go for it.

Sign up for Be Value, see what speed you get there. £14/month, uncapped, unlimited, unthrottled - I really can't see how you can go wrong or get a cheaper deal. What's an alternative - sign up for a 2Mbps deal somewhere else?

I remember posting on these forums, asking how much people download in a month, to give me an idea if I wanted a capped service or not. I got the impression a 4GB/month service would do. Downloaded over 12GB in my first month on Be, because I could - game demos, BBC iPlayer TV programmes, etc. Now I would just recommend everyone signs up with Be (and quotes me as a referrer, naturally )

Besides, if you find you're maxing out 8Mbps and you think your line might be capable of higher, I dare say you could call Be and get switched to the £18/month Be Unlimited temporarily to see what benefit you get. They'd want the chance to get £18 not £14 out of you each month, wouldn't they!
