Probably around 15 meters as it goes from the hall down stairs to the main bedroom socket. Then from there it goes to the office across the hall.

I'm going to try to router down stairs out of interest to see what difference it makes.

Ahh similar length to the one I've got in position. It runs from the front room socket, up the stairs and then into the front bedroom where the routers located.

If I put the router downstairs I get over 21 Mb but with the cable it varies between 14-18.

However, I cannot keep the router downstairs all the time just yet, this is due to all the rooms being cabled upstairs with "just the right" lengths of cat 5 running around.

no idea, with such cheap service for such good speeds you'd expect the cs to be ****e right?
    well you're wrong.
quite good customer service, i had just switched up from the 8mb package and i was getting 16mb from the 24mb package and I raised a ticket asking for help. They told me they couldnt really do nothing so I said downgrade it back then. When it was downgraded my modem was having troubles connecting and then I got a phone call. Wasn't an indian but the guy was telling me he can't access the modem and he helped me get it back on and he set it up all himself
Now I'm back on 8Mb but my speed is quite higher
    I'm well pleased.

faster upload too and possibly faster pings if you get your line stable and go on fastpath.

I think your prolly missing the point of using Newgroups by a lot of people nowadays. Not talking about the text groups more the binaries.
