    Re: World of Tanks

Playing a new Luchs with no upgrades is humbling to say the least. Even the 37mm gun is not much fun and being taken out by T-46s is embarrasing.

Got an elite AT-1 which I am really enjoying; the 57mm is brilliant and the 76mm allows you to one shot. You're never up against something you can't hurt although everything can outmanouver you. So am really learning the ropes in a TD. Tier II is definately the funnest so far. russian artillary is fun although the first one is a big gun stuck on an MS-1!

Thought exactly the same. I decided to get a couple of 100% crewmen for the Pz. III which I then transferred over to the Pz. IV. However, I didn't relaise how slow it is to get that last 10% back up. However, having a decent crew definately seems to improve the effectiveness.

Not played it much, artillery has fewer upgrades but does need a lot more xp to unlock the next tier.
Currently on the second one. It has a turret which I think is very handy as the aiming isn't thrown off as much. However, the standard 76mm does seem quite poor against heavy tanks. It's also taking a bloody long time to get the XP for the next tier. I think I'll find it quicker getting the the Hummel (T6) via the Pz. IV than to go through a whole arty tree. One of the reasons I much prefer the German tree.

pro tip with russian arty from what i tried so far

su-18 er..... its a start lets say

su-26 - best thing ever, turret not to trow off your aiming. and with little crew training deadly thing. Regarding the gun stick on the biggest one you can unlock i think its 122mm and stick the more expensive HE rounds on it. you get soo much bang for buck on it

su -5 - LOL gtfo, sucks balls

    Re: World of Tanks

I managed to get the SU-26 it's a big step up, the turret is nice but the higher ammo capacity and longer range are bigger things to me.

Got the 2nd upgraded 75mm on the PzIV, while it's only a little more pen it's made the difference between "that one bounced" and "another one like that should finish him" against heavies, granted another one will not finish him as I'm not doing that much damage.

@Domestic_Ginger, I prefered the panzerjagger to the AT-1 as a tier 2 TD, the next one up the SU-76 is good, my advice is the 57mm ZiS2 over the 76mm ZiS3, it's much more expensive and less damage but more pen, higher ROF and more accurate which is good when you use it at extreme range.
For me the big stumbling block was the SU-85b, slightly more hp and can mount the bigger 85mm gun, however the gun has a far more limited movement arc, esp up/down.

    Re: World of Tanks

I remember that elevation problem you had!

they have cut back my broadband but instead of 60ms lag i am getting between 120-150 or at worst 150-200. Not ideal but the game is just about playable.

I have about 60k atm so when I hit 82 odd I'll get the SU-26. I'm grinding a few T2 tanks too so have a T26 to work through.

I may try the Russian heavy and german Meds for a change. Tried the Yankee tanks last time and am keen to see if the KV is better than the M-1 (it can't be worse).

    Re: World of Tanks

I think the long 75mm on the Pz. IV is excellent. I can damage most armour regularly, has excellent accuracy and a decent fire rate (100% loader + ram feeders ). The armour on the upgraded turret isn't too shabby either. Haven't actually played a TD since release yet as I haven't felt the need with such a good setup on the Pz. IV! Just getting the credits for the binocs to fit to it, and it should be pretty complete.

    Re: World of Tanks

yes I unlocked the last 75mm on my PzIV dear god that's a long gun, I'm surprised the tank doesn't tip over

However it is a great gun, accurate and can actually damage heavies.

Started on the US light/medium tree again and the russian heavy tree
I decided to try out the 37 mm Automatic SH-37 on the T-46 . . . it has a ROF of 47 and I thought it would be a super fast firing cannon, it's not, it's like the flak guns, fires in bursts.
So far it's not bad vs light tanks, it's actual ROF is only 15 in bursts of 3, but if you aim low you can score a couple of hits and mess up a light tank fast, all told I'm not sure it's worth the money or xp.

    Re: World of Tanks

I'm really loving my PzIV now, it's still a bit soft compared to heavies, side a rear armour is low so you need to keep your front to enemies, which make the pop up and shoot very risky.
However that 75mm gun is amazing I can actually damage KV3 and tiger2 with it.

KV has some absurd guns that it has access to but T1 isn't that bad either. It's much quicker and once you have the 76mm gun, you can kill anything within your own tier. Lower tiers just bounce on your front hull/front turret.

The only reason to drive the American heavies in to reach the godly T29 and T32. They are well worth the hassle as their turret armour is thick to the point that you need the best penetrating gun in the game to damage it (frontally and non weakpoints anyway).

    Re: World of Tanks

Am starting to get bored to tears of the grinding needed just to get better tanks. At the moment, all my tanks are T4-5 and getting matched against up to T7, so I get absolutely wasted in single shots from anything I see (or more accurately, don't see... thanks spotting system), can't damage ANYTHING and get sod all exp.

To get my KV-3 I think I need to do about 80-100 battles in my KV. To get my SU-8 I have to do about 400 battles in my SU-5. Come on War Gaming, are you serious??

I don't think the game is for you if you see the battles as "grind" tbh m8, I love playing the battles, levelling my tank up is the end process of fighting in the matches, not the other way round.

the battles dont seem as grinding if they are fun when you are matched against similar opponents. But when you eg in a bt7 and the enemy team has 7 heavy tanks followed by few medium tanks, it becomes slightly pointless even playing

The 107mm on the KV should damage pretty much anything. I'm finding that arty gets experience far too slow for my liking. However, they can be good money earners. I've managed to walk away with 45k in my Hummel a few times. However, the next one (GW Panther) requires 116k XP! Since I'm only getting 4-500xp normally, that's nearly 250 games, including upgrades as well.

I'm also working on the Soviet TD. They're quite painful to use until you unlock a decent gun. By then, you're halfway to the next one anyway...

    Re: World of Tanks

Have to agree with previous comments, if you simply see WoT as 'I can has bestest tonk plox!' then you're missing the point. Working towards your next tank should be a part of the game, not the be all and end all otherwise once you have got the best tank you'll just give up and whinge there's nothing left to do.

Being mismatched makes it hard work but I still enjoy the challenge. Sure sometime you're up against heavies you can't scratch but that's where I like playing hit and run to immobilize them for heavier team mates and arty to play their role. Every battle is different for me, some days it can be miserable if your team is clueless but a couple of minutes wait and a new team can mean a real strategic gem.

I like putting in sometimes weeks of effort to finally obtain a new tier tank, it makes you appreciate it more once you do get it.

Combine that with the fact I'm not play WoT solidly to grind, I don't have a huge amount of time to play games so it's nice to think I've got ten minutes to spare and have a quick punt at p****ing some heavies off with my sneaky full camo TD.

    Re: World of Tanks

I have been a very silly boy. I have managed to play on the US server so far and have contacted customer services to move my account over. I will loose everything on the US server I have managed to get so far and had almost completed the Pz.III.

The game is a grind as soon as you get a new tank up until you have some top end gear. The 37mm on the PzIII? Luchs without the top engine, M3 Lee maxed out, 76mm SU-26 and the PIIIA. for the duration due to its turning.

I think you need decent tanks in your tier for it to be fun. Being a light in a heavy/mediun game with no art is a mess.
