my photoshop skills aren't all that, had a quick go at cloning out the car, will have a go at the sign later
how does this look? an obvious photoshop job or not?
A few tips i've learnt (just by practice, i'm not expert)
1) Be careful when using photoshop that your pixel resolution doesn't suddenly change. It's very easy to make things look too smooth. Zoom in on your picture, the pixels are actually pretty big when you're cloning and the algorithm will create new pixels at around half the size. Here's a screengrab from Photoshop, note the smoothing effect:
2) Always zoom out to see the bigger picture, it's all very well zooming right the way in but you can get too caught up in pixel hunting.
3) Don't just "remove", be a bit creative and see what would work well to fill the gap. I'll use yours as an example and be critical. You've left what looks basically like a bar of green. If you look to the right, it's too uniform on the top, and the bottom looks blurred and out of kilter with the rest of the grass. I've tried to clone bits of foliage from the right as well as keep the gravel/grass boundary sharp.
4) Remember - creative license means you can change subtle bits that people won't notice. If you're good, odds are no one else will have taken a picture from exactly there and stuff like grass could vary from season to season. For all everyone else knows, that grass was always a little wider!
5) Be especially careful about cloning easily identifiable bits. You want the details to be ambiguous enough for viewers to believe it's simply a resolution issue. The shrubs I cloned would look weird if the resolution was amazing because I'm exploiting the fact that I can cobble together something that looks like a bush but is really a mish-mash of bits of other bushes. But again, who needs to know?
I couldn't find a decent way to smooth out the grass and the gravel properly so i improvised and expanded the grass out a bit so that I could use a texture boundary that already existed.
It's still not perfect - i'm not happy with that inside corner...

Patches of white are snow - there were still huge banks of it where I was standing, a few feet deep in places. There was a bitterly cold wind and it was bloody freezing on the tops.
Nice photo, but I think the snow just looks maybe a little to sharp to me :s.
It didn't fall off, it merely became insufficient at it's purpose and got a bit droopy...

Fairly late and our garden is pretty much in the country so it was quite dark. Roasted Haribo marshmallows are made of purest win
