That's been said a lot over at talkphotography where I've also posted it. I'm not sure if it's my eyes or what, but it looks fine to me, but if you plus quite a few others say it doesn't look right, then I must be doing something wrong! I had no idea about smoothing so I just googled it and used the first result, which was a surface blur.

TBH I quite liked your original version, but I don't seem to see colours that well.
