    Re: Folding Chit-Chat

Frakking NIC in my server crashed randomly when I was 3% short of finishing a 2M WU this morning

Oh, and also while I was remoted in doing some work from home *sigh*. Now sat in the office working on a Sunday (fml) but on the plus side I've submitted the 2M and have just picked up a 500K so should get another unit submitted before I stop folding on Monday morning - lots of lovely points this w/e

    Re: Folding Chit-Chat

Anybody else been getting core units that utilise GPU3 OpenMM lately? I've had to completely revert my system to stock settings just to process these as anything above that returns NANs

Been folding aways using the GROMACs stuff absolutley fine for weeks on my GTX 480's on 24/7 @ 825/2000 vs stock settings of 700/1848 without a fault, ad suddenly these new untis come out and start crashing.

I say I'm dialed back to stock speeds, but I've yet to complete a unit without NAN's and today I've reverted back to stock after chipping away at the overclock slowly since discovering this yesterday.

It seems to be linked with Project 6800 which has caused some upset folk over at F@H.

Suppose I'm telling you this in case like me you're running on Fermi and wonder why you PPD suddenly drop off...

That's all I've been getting for days. I'm running a slight OC and I'm finishing them no problem, but their PPD really is bad compared to the previous WUs I was getting :\

Must admit, dialing back to stock has knocked my ppd to 9k per card, but I was only achieving 10-11k anyway (per card) so it's hit me below that psychological level of 10k,but it's not hit that hard.

Cold night last night, but my room was lovely and toasty this morning I'd leave the door open to warm the rest of the house if it wasn't for the cats and dog going in and nibbling wires....

    Re: Folding Chit-Chat

This was why my GPU3 WU score wasn't too clever then.
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

GROMACS stands for Groningen Machine for Chemical Simulations afaik...
So why, in my gpu2 client window, do I see this line:

[23:45:27] Working on Great Red Owns Many ACres of Sand
    Is that someone's idea of a joke? I don't get it :S

Turns out the pps at Gromacs add in random little sayings sometimes:
    I have tracked down:
Giving Russians Opium, May Alter Current Situation
    GROwing Monsters And Cloning Shrimps
Gromacs Runs One Microsecond At Cannonball Speeds

    My response:
    lol

I didn't realise that it changed! Must admit, when I first saw that I thought someone was having a joke, but I hadn't got a clue.

Suppose I'll have to wait now to hear the reference in "Big Bang Theory" or "The IT Crowd" or some other "intelligent" C4 comedy...

    Re: Folding Chit-Chat

A quick scan of Wiki supports your hypothesis Nibbler.

I wonder how many variations of this there are...

Actually scrub that, I've got to get some work done, and when I get home I shall be playing with overclocking my new (ebay) 980x processor. Got it running at stock to test all day long as my first attempts to overclock last night had it crash after 3 hours folding in the night.

Brum brum..... Now.... Lets see if I can't break the million point mark per month before the end of the year...

Go for it. Surely a 980X will hit 30k ppd if it gets enough bigadv units?

That's truly obscene. I've got 2 work units finishing today that are running on the processors (1 of each of the machines I'm using), both with an ETA of 8:10 tonight. If the projected points come in that's shown on FAHmon I should be getting 125k points for the 2 WU, which will bring me in on my million points in a month goal a month before the end of the year.

My main rigs going to be left on folding (GTX 295 and i7 920 @ 3.6 Ghz, 8 Threads), but I'm going to be powering down my gaming rig as I've got some mods to perform, with a coolant change, replacing the fan, and moving the drain point now that I found my 90 degree missing fixing.

I've been inspired by the coolit Boreas so am in the process of assembling an 8 watercooling block quad 130 watt peltier cooling system, which i need to be able to plum in once all the bits arrive. Thsi wont add much to my machine, but I'm hoping to be able to re-do the water loop and get the temp of the fluid down. While folding it's at a stable 60 degrees which is a little excessive for my liking.

    Besides, the house needs heating....

I'm hoping for a cheeky 125k points from you tonight then tatty!
I've decided that if I can afford it I'm going to invest in increasing efficiency. Currently at full load I get about 7.5kppd but using about 280W, so that's about 27ppw. If I got a phenom II 1055T 95W and a GTX460 I'd expect about 16kppd tbh, and at 225W, which would be 71ppw, which is more than twice as efficient! Might even be better going for a GTS450 for folding seeing as it'll still see about 8.5kppd at a guess.
