Can we all assume that ATI has officially given us all the finger? It's been over a month since we've heard from any of them. Nice customer service.

backlund, if any ATi people lurk here, they have heard of lots of folk getting the card to work and being pleased with the results with the caveat that you must completely ignore Cyber software on a non-MCE system. The MCE users seem especially happy and that's all ATi cared about. So, in short, yes, I'd say the finger is official.
I have confirmation from my software engineering friend that all tv cards should handle all broadcast frequencies on composite or s-video. He said manufacturers order the tuner according to region, but the signal processing chips are tuner independent and should do whatever the drivers let them do. Which jives nicely with what you said, sub.
To me (knowing the experience in this matter of my friend) this is definitive proof that ATi hasn't finished the drivers, never mind NTSC and SECAM on the composite channel. I don't think they intend on ever finishing this product's drivers.
Thanks satnav4, in that vote of confidence for the info on that site.

Up for giving GBPVR another shot, or has the card been returned as PAL-Challenged? If the former, you might give this program a chance: http://www.tvxb.com/#features

Actually, I'm a MCE user, and although I'm happy with the card, I'm not 100% happy. I still have the issue with the low volume, and sharpness. Mostly, I just wanted to see ATI's response to all those questions we proposed.
satnav4, if only they'd finished the drivers, and the composite/s-video channel worked properly, I wouldn't have to send it back. I'm still waiting the return ticket. Think I'll gently remind Overclock.
That tvxb looks like a good utility.
Anyone who doesn't care about their cyberlink remote want to donate it to sub? Oh yeah, of course you'll need to send the receiver too.
I pm'd sub and he said if someone sent him one he would work on adding support to GBpvr.
I have this remote, and while it is lame, I can use it to teach my sony rm-vl900 universal learning remote, which is much more ergonomic.
That was also part of the reason I passed on ATI's version.
Checked at usps.com, it would be $5.00 for Global priority Mail flat rate envelope(small) I think he is in new zealand(is that correct sub?). Just put some padding in with it and it should be fine. Tell them to stamp it fragile if they will.
Would be willing to reimburse for shipping after sub receives and you send me a scan of the receipt from P.O.
I will be posting on other forums, so if you want reimbusement, make sure I haven't arranged with someone else already
Couldn't resist being the first to post at the century mark. Does this start the new century, or does it start at 101?
Of course it starts at 101, but who's counting?
Whether it comes officially from ATI or non-officially from end users, I’d like to see a comprehensive list of software solutions that work and that don’t work with the Theater 550 Pro. IMO, buyers deserve to see this type of info.
That being said, I really like my Sapphire Theatrix Theater 550 Pro + ATI HDTV Wonder (with the HDTV Wonder’s SDTV tuner activate for a quasi 3 tuner setup) rig.
Yes I too am part of the mouth-breathing masses that thoroughly enjoy MCE 2K5 (with the exception of the DRM part,….I hate that). However, lets be realistic, OEM MCE PCs more often the not ship with video editing software that can edit non-DRM dvr-ms files. In addition to this, said editing software should be able to work with the installed TV tuner/capture card.
This is one reason why in my mind’s eye ATI’s claimed MCE target doesn’t hold water. MCE compatibility just isn’t enough because dvr-ms editing software compatibility is key too.
I’ll also add that the “Remote Wonder Plus” is far from a MCE solution. A MCE PC should have a remote that supports an “IR Blaster” on the USB base and the “Remote Wonder Plus” doesn’t meet this requirement. Not only that, there is still no way to properly configure the remote with the MCE interface (native support within the MCE app not some hack) and there is not even so much as an official ATI-to-MCE plug-in.
If ATI were serous about the MCE target they could have shipped it OEM without the remote and dubious software, or perhaps shipped the T550P with an official MCE remote. Heck, ATI could have finagled a deal with venders (and maybe M$) to possible cut a deal on OEM MCE 2K5 T550P package deals.
But instead,…
The way the T550P has been marketed and sold,….MCE as a target simply seems like an excuse for a last minute change of plans.
Just a twinkle in the eye of a spin doctor,…with a poor imagination,......
I don’t mean to be negative though. As I said I have the T550P and like it despite is low volume and fuzzy PQ. Hummmmm, that still sounds negative. I bought the T550P for a good price, $75,…..,…that’s positive,….right!?!
The price is right, Octavean, this none can deny. But the drivers? No updates since March! You read all posts, so you saw the posts proving that some of the sexier filters weren't even implemented for that release.
It's June now: for a bit of kit promised in September....it should have some sort of vague priority with ATi by now: shouldn't it?
You'll never hear from ATi about 3rd party solutions that happen to work with it. And as for users: I'm afraid this thread had great interest because some ATi folks posted here: since the ATi boys have obviously gone...
Frankly the main interest for this card fizzled out when folks learned ATi decided MMC won't work with it.

Actually, I think whenever ATI finally has working 3 rd party software solutions (assuming they ever do) they will likely shout it from the rooftops,…. whenever ,…if ever,….they do that is,….
After all, they tout Cyber-jinx Power-minima as if it descended from the heavens itself and we all know how god awful it actually is.
Through trial and error we end users can compile our own list (complete with version number) of compatible and incompatible software. It need not necessarily be here in this thread but somewhere since it is indeed within our (end users) power to do.
I myself have:
Intervideo WinDVD Creator 2
Pinnacle Studio 9
Sonic MyDVD 5.x
ArcSoft ShowBiz x.x
And probably a few more, all of which came with various hardware purchases (DVD+/-RW drive, Motherboard, video card and so on). Although, I have not conducted any formal experiments thus far my initial prediction (based on what I have heard) would be that the few programs that actually work will only do so partially (badly interlaced video and no audio).
If I am not mistaken, ATI representatives (don’t remember who precisely and in what capacity) alluded to wanting to encourage 3 rd party solutions. I believe this was mentioned in order to give credence to the lack of MMC support. So where exactly is this 3 rd party support? You got me!
Obviously ATI has had an existing relationship with Cyberlink since the ATI DVD-decoder is licensed from them and is in actuality the Cyberlink DVD-decoder. However, I see no video editing solution from Cyberlink that supports the T550P.
The same is true of Sonic. Sonic solutions are provided to ATI customers by way of the CD/DVD burning capabilities integrated into MMC (SAS folder on the MMC install CD). There is also the “Home Theater Enthusiast Package” that includes Sonic MyDVD for ATI with fully integrated support for ATI’s proprietary .VCR capture format. If 3 rd party support where to come from somewhere surely Sonic would be a good place to look! However, AFAIK,….nothing!!! It has been how long now since the T550Pfirst went on sale!?!
As for drivers, the first release drivers left much to be desired but the same can be said of the latest ones. BTW, the initial release was incapable of providing functionality for the radio in MCE 2K5. The latest release fixed the non-working radio in MCE 2K5 and likely some other things as well but there is still much to be done.
I’m sure some interest will be lost in the T550P but for those who actually bought one and didn’t return it,…..well lets just say they have a vested interest.
Thay have been helping third parties. Thanks to the device and information they've supplied I was able to add support for the ATI 550 Pro to GB-PVR. All 550pro users that are looking for this type of application can benefit from this since GB-PVR is free.If I am not mistaken, ATI representatives (don’t remember who precisely and in what capacity) alluded to wanting to encourage 3 rd party solutions. Im confused, what is this thread about now? Everyone knows the card was crap.

Does anyone else have a problem with some channels having black bars on the sides. This hapens in both the powercinema (which I don't use other than
to check this) and iuvcr. It isn't a problem with the iuvcr i crop 12 off the left and 4 pixels off the right to give me 704*480
Iuvcr works great with the theatrix for avi and wmv, but it does cost $26
and doesn't do mpeg 2. Also the sharpness control is greyed out on unsharp side. It is ridiculous that a premium priced card can't get drivers done fpr over two monthes.
I see someone talking about the leadtek, it works good with virtual vcr if
you set the audio frequency to 48k or somthing that divides into it like 32k
24k 16k etc.
The leadtek software will not store audio frequency settings that that divide into 48khz, which is the crystal frequency on sound cards. If you divide 48000 into 44100 or 22050 you get an infinately long decimal which will give you a rounding error. You end up having a file that shows an incoorect audio sampling rate. (it may be 21950 while the header shows 22050)
This is normal for some channels. Most tvs will overscan the incoming signal and you'll lose 5-10% of the total image around the edges--so they won't even be visible to the average tv watcher.Originally Posted by jscheide
On my old leadtek winfast tv 2000 it would crop the incoming signal automatically so that those black bar were not visible. The theatrix does not do this.

sub, I was aware of GB-PVR/T550P compatibility as you stated and I did not intend to discount it. Although I am not a GB-PVR user I, as well as many others I am sure, are grateful for your endeavors in this respect.
PVR software is indeed desired but the same can be said for retail capture/edit/burn applications such as those mentioned in my previous post.
I suspect that precious few if any such software titles of this type are functional with the T550P. If so, this would be a serious problem for many.
Personally, low volume bug aside, I don’t see how one can have an ideally configured MCE PC when no dvr-ms editing application will work with the installed capture card.
I hope that a mass of patches and upgrades to many well known applications is on the way because I really like this little T550P card.
