You could say that about a lot of things eg

    1) Anyone that says "there's no such thing as God" ask them to prove it

    2) Anyone that says "there's no such thing as Ghosts" ask them to prove it

    and Vice Versa

eg If someone says there is a God ask them to prove it.

    pretty self explanitory really

Depends on the extent of the detail. The less specific you are, the harder it is to disprove, or at least the less likely it is to be proven.

As in... There are big headed green aliens on Mars - vs. - there's some form of intelligent life out there somewhere.

Really its more believable though when you think about it Aliens are based on Science and logically they could exist as surely there are planets that can sustain life.

I don't want to offend anyone but what grounds can you prove/base that God exists?

Who says the chance of life occuring is small?

There are many theories of how that first spark of life began, but over the space of a million or more years, with the right conditions, it was a statistical certainty.

Intelligent life on other planets would be the end of, at least, the christian religion. We all know evolution isn't a product of chance, and so it's impossible that intelligent life evolving on a planet different from ours would look like us. How would the religious kooks expect aliens to accept a god in our image?

Of course, religions like buddhism would still exist.

As an avid science fiction reader I love the concept of the Niven/Pournelle collaboration 'Footfall' in which a technologically advanced alien race are defeated by human individualism. Aliens are likely to have a radically different culture. Spaceboure aliens would probably have advanced beyond religion.

I don't think the universe is infinite. Energy-mass at least I think is finite.

If God created the universe, and did so solely to make us on this planet, then what the heck is AAALLLL the other stuff for?

It's like creating an Ocean to house your goldfish.

How do you come to that conclusion then? Just because the Bible doesn't mention aliens, it does not say that they don't exist. It could simply be that God created another race on another planet. Imagine if we made contact with another life of aliens, and they too have Christianity, due to God sending someone to their planet and teaching them about it. Surely that would back up religion? I'm not saying this is likely, and as I've said before I don't believe there are aliens, but there's no contradiction between believing in aliens and being religious.

How about to give us perspective of how significant God is if he created the universe?

TeePee ... but when you think that once we're spacebourne, it's unlikely we'll have evolved beyond our current state (a hairs breadth from a monkey) and will therefore have the same fears, desires and passions....people need a higher power now, so it's unlikely that'll have changed just because we're slightly more technologically advanced. I'm sure that people who don't believe in God have been prediciting His/Her/Its demise in the face of Science for hundreds of years....Doesn't seem to be having any effect yet...

In a galaxy of 100 billion stars and in a universe of 100 billion galaxies the chances that we, on our miniscule lump of rock, are the only form of life is pretty low. However, given the vast distances and the physical constraints of travelling those distances the chances of meeting that life is pretty low too. We are much more likely to receive a transmission of some sort than to shake hands with ET.

I'm still reading a book on it by scientists, the chances of our culture getting to the way it is is pretty much completely improbable. It does make some good statements i.e. "how did that first amoeba get here, because that's what started it, that random creation or spark of life, how did it get here?"

It's true though, the earth would've been a big burning rock for millions of years but so hot that nothing could survive on it. Then suddenly life kicks off? It's interesting stuff to read the scientific and religious side of the story. But I don't think it's justified reason to have a dig at either side of the story.

Yes, it would. This would totally back up religion. Utterly.

Not likely? The only way this would happen is if there were another race of aliens planting myths in some kind of cosmic conspiracy. I think alien involvement in JFK's assasination is far more likely.

Why would God go so far out his way to give us free-will and a brain to reason and do things through thought if as you say, everything has been pre-defined.

Sometimes in life it does seem like it has been scripted but I believe the "coincidences" we face in life are part of the VERY complex sums of our choices.

lol I wrote that 3 years ago, and I'm not sure I explained what I meant very clearly. Basically I meant that our understanding of time is wrong. You have complete free will, but I believe it is possible to see what decisions you will make in the future. That's not to say it's pre-defined and you don't make the decision, it's just that as it's possible to see what decisions you have made in the past, sometimes it is possible to see decisions you will make in the future.
