Will changing the MTU effect how quickly webpages download?
I was just wondering how to make this connection quicker without getting a Linux router.

I installed TCP optimiser after changing the MTU on router to 1500 and browsing is definitely quicker, I can notice the difference, before it was set to 1958 or something? I can't remember now but not only that my PC is booting up quicker as well and nothing else has been changed at all. All I have installed on this PC today is TCP optimiser and set it to optimal settings, weird.
I know my speed is bad but it is due to my remote location. I do sync at 8Mbit though exactly. FTP downloads have seen 1MB/s briefly but http rarely goes over 850KB/s at all.
Really weird I found this thread from Google. Can't remember what I was even searching for now but the last post I made was to do with changing the MTU and I did it today, strangely enough.

Interesting upward trend in the download speeds shown here. Not a very steep trend mind you.
Although I think Howard's comment from 2007 still usually applies.
I am eagerly waiting for Virgin to start/finish the upgrades to make 100meg available. Wonder what upstream we will get? I think it will still be less than 5meg.
I was down in the Best Buy Southampton store yesterday and i couldn't help but run a speed test (yes i'm sad like that) and it came out about 100mbp!
Plus the isp was their own and it seems to be based in the US. I now wonder if the speed was limited by 100ethernet.
doubt it. My speed above is on 100Mb line but the 2820 can't handle it. I have an ASA 5505 to setup, that should give us 100/100

It isn't even worth me putting my speed on here!! I got 0.25mb!
