I am suprised what I get from Pipex which from experience now owned by Tiscali of course are nothing like how good they used to be back in the day!! the service is generally fine but their customer support centres are not good at all. It takes about an hour to talk to someone and even then they don't have much of a clue as to how to solve the issue.
Currently synced at 7680kbps, sometimes get 7800kbps region. Once summer returns I'm hoping to regain old 8k region syncs. Router goes off every night so that doesn't help.

Yep, I find that Speedtest.net is one of the least reliable sites out there.

Re: Your broadband speed - post here

I find it's generally very reliable lately, especially to the Birmingham mirror. I find other sites such as speed.io and a few others to be very unreliable and report my speed as about 40% less than it actually is.

Re: Your broadband speed - post here

on another point with speed tests, if you test on a wifi (54) and you have a fast 50meg plus internet you will only get speeds of about 30 meg max.

That's one thing that annoys me, the people that join petitions/go on the news saying that they're not receiving what they're paying for...

It's not meant to be 8Mbps, it's not advertised as 8Mbps it is advertised as UP TO 8Mbps.

They define a maximum value, not a minimum...

Therefore the customer is getting what is advertised, and what it states in the T&C's, in black and white, (If anyone could be bothered to read them rather than just click 'I have read the T&C's' )

And yet if one of the terms was that they had to sodomize a polar bear, and the contract was terminated because they hadn't, i'm sure that they would be the first to complain!

(PS not a crack at you robtbear at all, your post just happened to be the first i read which had a phrase structure which annoys me )

I live in an old block of flats, which accounts for the drop in speed, would get good speeds otherwise I reckon.

But it meets my needs I find, and is pretty reliable I've found. And Faster than Toucan/Pipex/TalkTalk who I had before Sky,

HAHA quite funny and I actually agree with you..
It wasn't ment as a moan more of a observation as the speed test was showing just 1.5Mbps
I should be able to get 5-6 from my line most of the time I get about 1. few weeks ago I was lucky to get more than 25Kbps (yes K) until I changed the MTU on the router to 1300 now going much better. It changes so much throughout the day it makes me mad as I don't have a very good TV signal, No DAB at all, FM is hopeless, even the sky signal breaks up cos of all the trees around, no cable around the area the price I pay for living in the lovely South-west countryside.. I guess I should just go outside more often lol
    Now that's a moan heehee
