Update for all those using the Be Box - thompson SpeedTouch 780

If you change the Adminstrator password and then try to login with IE7, the router does not accept the commands. Use firefox to login to the router.

Be and thompson are aware of this and they should be releasing a fix very soon with another firmware update.

I hope this helps someone out there

Hmm - finally connected up (almost a week late) and I'm only getting 9100/1304 - considering I had almost 8000 on my old ADSL line I'm not that impressed.

As a side note it does work with my Netgear DG834N router, and in actual fact is faster than the Be Box.

How did you get the username and password to plug into the netgear box ?

You select does not need a login and leave them blank yeah. Then set:

    Encapsulation : LLC
    VPI : 0
    VCI : 101

I have a static IP, so I needed to put the IP details and DNS in there and then it just connected. The Be box has one of the worst interfaces I've seen on a router.

I agree. I cant even figure out how to assign static IPs to devices on my network.

And I am very comfortable with every other router I have used.

I quite like the interface myself.

So you want to turn of DHCP and manually configure ip addresses for all your devices?

    try clicking "home network">Interfaces>LocalNetwork>Configure

    Re: BeThere.co.uk - Wow

Everyone seems to suggest requesting turning on fastpath. I've had a quick Google for it, but I don't see a clear explanation of what it is/how it works.

    Anyone know?

    My latest speeds are:

    ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 9521 kbps 1317 kbps
Line Attenuation 40.5 db 19.3 db
Noise Margin 6.3 db 6.6 db

So I could do with a bit of a speed bump!

    Re: BeThere.co.uk - Wow

Fastpath is no interleaving. Interleaving is a way of getting a more stable line. It does this by spreading out packets and error correction so noise won't affect them as much but at a cost to latency. No reason not to try it, especially if you play games.

    Re: BeThere.co.uk - Wow

Yeah - managed to find a link to it. I've had fast path enabled, and am now syncing at over 10Mbit with no loss of stability - VPN to work is uninterrupted.... Time to try tweaking SnR next....

I am seriously considering putting a WRT54GL with DD-WRT v24 between the BeBox and my network to handle all those jobs, along with traffic shaping/prioritising etc.

The BeBox would probably run cooler and a bit more stable then. I do get the odd occasional "stutter" where web pages take a little longer than they should, even though my internet connection is active (without any other downloads).

Seriously, consider a DG834N - that's what I have, and it works great - used the BeBox to test my connection, and it's now up in the loft with the old BT speedtouch stingray modem.....

i'm definately considering trying to get my old netgear up and running, the 780WL's interface is quite clunky, why have a page showing you the details and then have to click configure to configure it!? why not just go right to the configure page!!

and having to set up dhcp leases through telnet is a pain, not being able to see whats been set up in the web config is a pain.

the only thing the BE box has that my netgear doesnt, is VOIP options. although if it syncs higher than the netgear, i guess i'll have to live with it :/
