Only if you have a HOTAS joystick I think. I couldn't play it at all on keyboard. There are instruction videos with tutorial exercises to do before you launch off into the void, then you'll be running 220T of dodgy goods in a type-7 before you know it

I could sort of fly OK with a game pad, but the stick seems easier. Doubled to cost of the game though as I didn't already have one.

    Re: Elite : Dangerous

It's beginner friendly if you've got the right kind of expectation; i.e, there's a learning curve and unless you're experienced with flight generally it's going to take a bit of getting used to. If you played the original, you'll need about half an hour and it will be an enjoyable renaissance of gaming. If you've not played any, then it'll take a few hours to get your head around it - but there's lots of tutorials about, a friendly community here and I'm sure you'll get on just fine.

A joystick is hugely recommended, but you don't need a full on HOTAS jobbie. A cheap Logitech 3D Pro is all I use, you don't need to be spending hundreds on a stick.

A Saitek FLY 5 and an hour of playtime was all it took for me to get the basics.
Might take a couple of hours now, with all the additional mechanics.

I think my T-Flight HOTAS is about £45 on Amazon.

    Re: Elite : Dangerous

That T-Flight Hotas does look quite good and is £39.99 inc. postage.

Although I hadn't anticipated the need for additional hardware... I can easily pass a game under the nose of SWMBO by claiming it has just sat in my library unplayed for ages...but boxed goods are different. They require subtlety or distraction :/

Maybe i'll buy her a new pair of shoes to be delivered the same day #

I am a "serious" casual gamer, dipping in and out of 3 or 4 games at any time and would like this for the trade / flight simulations. I am not heavily into the flight combat side (I think.. this is of course an untested theory with this game!).

Pay for postage and you can have my Tflight (non hotas). People can and do play with mouse & keyboard, but for immersion you can't beat a joystick. The only problem i see with the T flight HOTAS is thats it a bit of a gateway. I went straight to an X55 as I knew if I got one I'd only want a better one later on!

Thought I would do some mining while watching the WWE network on Saturday night. Waste of bloody time.

All the money in made in mining and killing bounty hunters, i lost when I hit an asteroid. 600k to rebuild my asp. Ouch.

If I could only fine a decent mining location i would be happy.

I have a Cobra set up specifically for mining. It doesn't get out much though, seemed like charity work for the returns. I think the Asp is a bit big.

Spent ages looking for pristine metallic ring planets, it didn't seem to help much when I found one (I think it was at Bhutas).

I have considered having a mining ship but the asp is such a versatile ship, I can rig it for bounty hunting and mining at the same time. Found myself going out to mine and ending up in a resource extraction site filled with anacondas and clippers and easily make 400k before i run out of ammo. I kinda forget about the mining after that.

I watched a youtube video that said don't bother with the resource sites, any bit of metallic ring will do and you will be largely left alone to get on with mining.

Thanks to the Crimson State Group at Lugh I now have a type 7 for bulk hauling to the places that have a landing pad big enough That is lovely, I can set the Asp as a proper explorer ship, Vulture for pew pewing, Cobra for mining.

Trade your way to a new Titan graphics card... http://www.elitedangerous.com/news/g...7f854dde8ba9ff

Not even Easter yet, good luck with that egg hunt guys & gals

Edit to add: Looks like that got pulled, so I guess the competition isn't announced yet. Perhaps it really is an Easter thing.
