I don't think he gets that part yet. No doubt an arrest and caution later and he will

On the right. It's jpeg compression. The photo has a very gradual change in colours, so compression artefacts can be expected. It's barely noticeable on my laptop but I can see it fairly clearly on my BenQ VW2420H, although it's admitedly not set up well. Moving on...

I don't understand what's going on with the talking down, frankly. If this isn't a thread for offering feedback or critique then personally I think it should be renamed. Kushti has also said that there is banding on the Flickr version if you've read the thread - I appear to be getting that version.

I quite like the image, but the banding is rather distracting for me (hence why I felt it was worth pointing out) and it's the only image I've viewed recently in this thread - or in Kushti's Flickr stream - that suffers from it. In future, I don't think I'll bother offering any feedback - it seems like it's better to say nothing than offer some honest advice to help a photographer with a lot of promise to make even better images.

I presume you mean the galleries? If so, thanks - I'd forgotten to restore it after reverting back to an older version of my database.

As was mentioned by another poster in the last post of the previous page of this thread, it'd be nice to get back to the pictures instead of what was frankly an attempt to offer some honest feedback being turned on its head into an attack.

i've copied the flickr version and opened in PS and still can't see the banding.. which is why i was asking about it being mistaken for texture..

    Re: Photo-a-day

I've had a look at Kushti's photo again and there is a hint of banding on the RHS for me, but I had to look very hard to see it, and it really is faint. That's on a crappy laptop screen.

I guess the point is that it probably depends what you're viewing the image with, what display settings youve got etc etc, so there really is no point in this circular argument :-) After Tim pointed out that he could see banding (which was worth mentioning in case it was a PP artefact), Kushti has said he can see banding in his Flickr image but not the original, so presumably there is some jpg compression issue - but as someone else pointed out, that's likely to be the case unless we all start uploading uncompressed images.

One possible way to sort out the 'banding' though would be to reduce the vignetting slightly (which I feel is ever so slightly overdone). Fantastic image, as usual, though.

p.s. I'm sure Bobster wasn't intentionally talking down to you, Tim. In my experience, he is one of the most helpful togs on this forum and usually offers good advice.
