Ive only had a problem once with city link. I was at home all day awaiting my delivery (a complete system build). I kept checking the progress on the internet with my refrence number.

Tuesday 8.18 am - loaded onto the van
Tuesday 15.57 pm - Parcel delivered
Wednesday 7.13 am - Goods loaded onto van
Wednesday 13.23 pm - Parcel delivered

They lied completely, you should have seen my rage when it showed as 'Delivered' on tuesday and nothing had even turned up!! I was straight on the phone, only to be told there was nothing they could do but wait until the driver returned (which was probably a load of c**p! Well I found out nothing more that night. Checked the website again in the morning and it was loaded onto the van a second time. It finally turned up that afternoon and when i questioned the driver he said he was 'off sick' the day before and didn't know anything!

I think a lot has to do with their subcontractors , the contractor company they use up by me are the best delivery company in the country imho, the driver knows my work habits so will give me a ring if theres anything that needs to be delivered for 12 and gives me the option of popping it in my house or dropping it into my house at the back of 6 on his way home, and the Royal mail up here are excellent too, only delivery company that are slow up here are parcels to go as they class me as offshore ????? , and i live 8 miles from the City of Inverness the Capital of the Highlands.

I'm also a City Link fan - but I think it has more to do with the driver than the company!

He usually turns up at the same time and is always happy. Twice recently Scan have kindly sent my order the day before I asked them to (which is a pity as I had arranged to be in on the day specified). But the City Link driver has returned later (~6:00pm) - presumably on way home / back to depot, and delivered.

My only regret is that until 9 months ago his regular delivery time was 7:30am (so I could start building early), but I guess his route changed as he now delivers at ~11:00.

Maybe the traffic is horrendous in Cardiff and the statement above taken from wiki backs that up

    Just a thought ...

Very good service here. Although once had a relief driver(regular one is at my door every week) and I was doing some gardening he came up with a parcel and I said that will be the cpu I am waiting for. The driver very politely said could you go indoors sir and open the front door so I know you are the householder. As I my feet was muddy I told him to stop being ridiculous and let me sign for my parcel. But no unless I went in the house and opened the other door he would not give it to me. So I did and accidently let my german shepherd out(who would not hurt a fly). That worked he gave me my parcel rather quickly and left in a bit of a hurry.

    Same here as well.

I'd like to see Scan move to a different courier, or at least offer different postage options (UPS?). But I have to say, I have not personally had problems with City Link. It seems entirely down to the quality of the CL branch in the area - mine has been fine.

I have found that when I they deliver to my work address all is good. But when they deliver to my home address I get the same tracking lies that others have experienced. They just don't turn up and then claim no one home / premises closed / no access etc.

The thing is I live close to work so it must be the same driver on the same run. I think resendential addresses are at the end of the list and if they're running short on time they just don't bother.

From what I have heard the city link service varies quite a lot across the country. Near to me (the nearest depo being Grantham) have been fine whenever i have used them to have an item delivered. Never sent an item with them tho.

    I used to hate them...

I ordered some home entertainment equipment from an online company a few months ago, and was told "No alternate address, home only delivery" Fine I thought, I'll just take a morning off, wait around etc, sign and then race back to work.

I took the morning of expected delivery off, waited til 1pm (they'd stated a morning delivery) and left to go to work to email them to moan about the non-delivery and the fact I'd wasted a morning. I did so, got a reply saying it had been signed for by me (!) at 11am. Usual disbelief etc followed.
I arrived home to find one of CityLink's calling cards on the mat, "We TRIED to deliver etc at 11am" As I was home until 1pm and no one called, I rang them to moan some more and was told they rang the bell etc, no one answered and so they went, which was a bare-faced lie.

Anyway, that's where the trouble began.

They promised to deliver the next day, but I'd have to wait in again, so I did, no delivery, off to work I went, got home that night, yellow calling card etc etc etc.

This went on for a week, and so come the weekend I rang CityLink told them not to deliver anything and that I would drive the 80 mile round trip to pick up the stuff myself. I did so, arrived at their depot to be told...you guessed it, it was out for delivery. Thankfully the wife was home.

I drove home again and waited, it never arrived, I rang, they apologised and so on.

I believe it was a week to the day after the promised to deliver I finally received my goods, at my work address, after refusing to wait around any more. I had to write to the online company from whom I ordered to get them to write to CityLink to change the shipping address.

I received a full refund of delivery charges, (about £20 odd) by way of an apology and a £25 gift voucher from the online company which I still haven't used (they ship with CityLink of course!)
Try playing The Getaway, you can joyfully crash into as many CityLink vans as you please as you sit at home waiting for them not to deliver.

I think it all depends on whether it's a regular driver or someone they've got in temp. I had trouble with a driver not being able to find where I live ( block of 50 odd flats just off the main road) from Tuesday to Friday, then the 'regular' guy came on the Saturday, said he'd been off sick and apologised.

Although my last order arrived in an unmarked white van which I thought was a bit odd, but managed to find the place on the right day. All a bit strange!
