Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread

I think i'll take it apart and see if it's just a loose ribbon connector, but it's not the end of the world. It's not the kind of phone i'd miss for a fortnight!

To be honest if it requires anything more than half an hour to bodge, it's not worth the effort. It's a Samsung U800 btw. It's pretty knackered too, the d-pad plastic cover fell off a while ago and i keep meaning to superglue it back on.

@Andy - This was a Samsung phone, not a Desire. I don't use Gmail and for some reason my SIM card wouldn't let me store that many contacts on it. I've got around 100 stored (and now recovered) from the phone in Samsung's "rich" format (stores extra stuff beyond the SIM specification). I'd also quite like to get the few hundred odd text messages off the phone because I tend to store all my correspondences in case I need to look up something later. Samsung makes backup software that works remarkably well which i've now used.

Ahh, that makes sense then. This being an HTC Desire thread, I thought you meant you broke your Desire

I've got a HD2 at the moment and am considering the Desire.. However i compared it and the screen is just dwarfed

Each phone i've got the screen has got bigger, i dont think i can bring myself round to the idea of going backwards, not even for android...

    Size isn't everything

on a serious note, surely the only thing the HD2 has over the Desire is the screen?

    I know...

But i think the HD2's screen size is just perfect! I cant wait for the Evo, but my upgrade is the 18th of this month so i have to choose something!

And yes i believe that is the only thing that is better. I perfer the design of the HD2 myself, but android is just the killer element..

I was thinking a Sony Eric Xperia X10, as it's a 4" screen and not far off... But i've only ever heard bad things about Sony Ericsson's :S

I have the same feelings about the screen size and looked into the X10 as the Desire is too small. In short X10 is crippled with Android 1.6 so don't bother.

Ah very good point, my mind completely skipped the android version. Indeed thats like having a cake but not eating it..

I might have to get the Desire as an upgrade, sell it. Keep the money for the Evo? I dont know.. i have no idea on the eta for the evo either.

But im getting sick of WinMo now. I've been using WinMo 6-6.5 for about 2 and a half years now, and it's just getting so bad.

Engadget reports that someone spotted an evo stateside, so they must be slowly leaking through. If it's essentially and HD2 with Android then it shouldn't be too long.

I wish HTC wouldn't faff around with so many models!

Wit for Windows Phone 7 to be ported to the HD2.

Or I am sure people are working on a Desire ROM for the HD2?

There is some android development for the HD2 but i believe it's gone a bit stale..

As for a win7 port who knows...

Too long to wait i think.

Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread

Got my desire yesterday and I love it. Can't say I'm pining for anything else at all. Android is fast and responsive, app store is great and everything (bar email) has been very easy to set up. Extremely impressed with the fb integration, and at last proper internet. Thanks for all the tips here

Speaking of which, how do I remove programs from my favourites screen? Too much early fiddling
