Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread

The only issue I had was with bloody windows other than that smooth I can see myself reflashing all the time now but you have to start somewhere.

Loving the LeeDroid though seems more stable and faster than the official.

Glad your sorted format can get hairy at times I know.

Titanium pro fixes this... You can also use mybackup (free 30 day trial) as an additional backup in case you forget something in titanium.

    Glad you didn't brick it!

Should we all rush for 2.2? Is there one "must have" that makes it worthwhile?

Not really tbh unless you find 2.1 slow or are very curious/impatient.

The only reason I flashed custom 2.2 was because it looked like vodafone might take weeks to release it's bloatware 2.2 rom...

Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread

WiFi hotspot is a nice touch in 2.2 though
App management is nicer and gives running tasks as well.

Otherwise there isn't much in it that I'd say is a must have.

How about 720p video recording and the greatly improved browser speed with flash 10.1 capability? If these aren't features worth waiting for I don't know what is!

Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread

I stupidly upgraded to the vodafone bloatware, but have since rooted my phone and upgraded to the HTC official froyo rom for the desire. The only issue I had was the latest radio rom killed my GPS so I had to go back to a slightly older radio rom. That also got rid of the voda 360 crap

General feelings on 2.2 are it is indeed much snappier to use, the app management changes are good but it cetainly hasnt blown me away as an essential upgrade worth the xtra effort, I'd wait for the OTA update unless your provider is slow as .....

Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread

Just saw this new app, that backs up your messages to your GMail account. And now has the ability to restore as well. This wasn't previously available in the other apps that I was using.

Now SMS Backup+ has completely replaced SMS Backup (which only backs up to GMail account, can't restore) and SMS Backup & Restore (which only backs up locally onto your SD Card, but has the ability to restore your SMS).

Titanium backup backs-up and restores messages, but only to the SD card at the moment. Guess the above is ideal if you want cloud storage. How quick is the process?

Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread

I have used SMS Backup by Michael Valentini (free) to backup and restore SMS, it does it to the SD Card. Took a while to restore my 3K texts though!

Does about a message or two a second (backing up)

Depends on which app you are talking about:-

    • SMS Backup+ backs up on the fly (to your GMail account), and you won't notice it doing it all. Literally as you send and receive messages it does its thing in the background. But it doesn't run in the background constantly, it must be only triggered when send and receiving messages. Unsure of what the restore time is like, but can't be that long at all
    • SMS Backup much like the one above, only difference is that this one can't restore the messages you backed up
    • SMS Backup & Restore doesn't back up on the fly, you set an automated time, and it runs through and backs up everything to an *.xml file stored on your SD card. I've used this one to restore once, ending up cancelling it because it did take a while.

What app can I use to get multiple control widgets ie WiFi, Brightness, 3G etc on one bar?
