    Re: Folding Chit-Chat

Hmm Hexus' review of the GTS450 places it only 20-30W blow the GTX460 768mb in power draw, which is not really enough to justify getting the cheaper card. If I upgrade, it'll be a GTX460 after all I'm starting to think. GTS450 runs at 70C with stock cooler too, which again is worryingly high considering the GTX460 runs at 55C under load!

I'm getting tired just watching my 2 machines working their socks off. Scared to turn them off and do the necessary maintenance by Cannibalising my main gaming rig, pulling the 980x and putting it into it's new server box which I'm going to be assembling. Ends up my core i7 920 overclocks further, so while games use minimal threads it makes sence to move the processor to the higher utilisation box. ie my "server"

There's some serious crunching power going on in your (1stRaven) datacentre, and it'll be a sad day when you have to stop folding on your works machines. Wish I had the balls to install Folding in our datacentre.

Its called testing the processors and cooling abilities. I can tell you that 12 servers working their cpu's kick out some heat.

If only I could rollout the software across all 64 servers rather than the 12. I would be hitting over 240kppd.

Alas, although I work in IT, I work on the Apps side, so I don't have access to the sysadmin user/password and therefore have no internet access once logged into the datacentre. Besides, our servers are managed by a third party, and I would therefore not have any needs to test such operating parameters.

Bit bummed by that, but its' the way of the world for me. Besides, if I can nearly match 12 servers running in you datacentre on 2 of my physical machines (albeit the 12 machines are unable to run bigadv, whereas I can ) then I'm doing ok. Can't wait for the Xmas holidays so I can work on my machines and get them set up how I'd like. That and a bit of Just Cause 2/Crysis time....

Might even install Wolfenstein that I got for Xmas last year!

Glad you did manage to get your servers up and running 1stRaven - I wouldn't have put in quite the effort had you not.... in the name of science of course.

    Re: Folding Chit-Chat

    Well done Nibbler!

I set my GTX 480's to process with the -advmethods yesterday. My ppd has DROPPED further when I look at the scores actually recorded with Extreme Overclocking. I'm beginning to wonder if Stanford have shares in NVidia and are trying to handicap me so I have to buy more to get up to speed!

I'm seriously considering sticking a copy of XP on the same machine and seeing what that throws up performance wise, and if it does improve, I'll dual boot my gaming rig.

I know it sounds noobish but try just googling "How to fold fermi" or something and see what the recommended config is. You're getting like 9kppd? That's way too little man.

    Re: Folding Chit-Chat

Interesting, I did one -advmethods WU and then decided to try getting rid of that flag and folding normally as I was before (noisy +time consuming). I'm now back to the cumbersome 1298 WUs but the time per frame has miraculously pretty much halved. In short, my GTX460 is back up to the normal 11K ppd, just by switching to -advmethods and back
