As you can probably tell from my avatar, we've got one lump gorgeous catten! She's called Shadow, she's a rescue, she doesn't like other cats, and she's grown massive since we got her, despite the shelter assuring us that she was 4 years old! She is allowed in the study (like we could keep her out even if we wanted to!) but she gets told off for trying to climb into the computers.

As I say, other people's dogs I get on very well with: but officially I don't like them

"On an unrelated note, can anyone suggest a method of mounting a Zalman CNPS8700 on an AM3 mobo without the clip, as I managed to loose the clip, and have had no response from Zalman yet regarding getting a replacement."[/QUOTE]

    You could make one from:

1xspare piece of straight metal (such as a PCI blanking plate)
    2x Cable ties

I've done this once on a Titan Fenrir. Looking at the Zalman, you may have to use something else

Cut the subby mounting end off the PCI blanking plate. I had a couple from an old system kicking around that were chunky Stainless steel, so very stiff.

drill a hole in either end.

Feed Cable ties throught each end, through the CPU to motherboard mounting plate, and then back into the the cable tie (obviously!) and then pull tight evenly from both sides.

If you have any long enough, you could use cable ties to mount it, but I found that the sink moved a little bit too much for my liking.

It'llcertainly get you by until you do hear back from Zalman.

As the mobo is in desktop orientation cable ties just might work, I didn't think of anything that simple, I was going to use today to hack apart an old skt 478 mobo to get the metal clamp from the bottom and rig it to fit with screws into the existing AM3 bracket.

    Re: Folding Chit-Chat

I wouldn't try it with cable ties; you're gonna need an awful lot of tension, not sonething I would trust with cable ties.

Back to folding, I have set it up and its running 200000 steps and its 140000 atm (7%). I have tried to install the GPU client v2 and it tells me my 5850 is not supported. Is there an upto date guide? Do I need stream or other gizmo. I have net framework 4 client profile installed drivers 10.12. thanks for any help.

I installed Boinc and its making my GPU work pretty hard. Would like to help you guys out too though If I could.

    Re: Folding Chit-Chat

If you have still got the client installed:
-Right click on the client in the tray
    -Press configure
    -Go advance tab
-In the additional client parameters put the flag "-forcegpu ati_r700" (Without the "")

TBH if you have the smp client going it is probably a toss up between how much you gain from using the GPU client at the same time, especially with an ati card.

I addd that to my shortcut. NOt doing much. I'll stick with the CMD prompt thingi, it just does not seem to be doing much.

    Re: Folding Chit-Chat

That may fluctuate - you'll get a feel for how many PPD and time per fold your kit can do over time. I've found it varies wildly during the processing. At the start I might be @ 35 mins per fold on a big unit, at later points I'm around the 20 minute mark. Depends on your processor load and what is being folded.

I've never known the end time to to be too wildly out though, unless you power down your machine for 40 days like I had to over Xmas while waiting for some water cooling bits to arrive, and some time to fit them.....

The good news is that 2M step wu's seem to be in relatively short supply at the moment, I've been mainly on 500K wu's for a while now. On the other hand, that i5 750 should be much faster, should take about 20 hours to crunch I'd say, what clocks/smp config are you running?

    Re: Folding Chit-Chat

Each % was taking about 23-24minutes. With Boinc using four cores and GPU at 100% my processor was at 100% use; a toasty 52C. Every 20k steps (1%) was taking 24minutes

Now Boinc is full time on two cores with the GPU at 100%. So total usage is about 79-83% with F@H running ontop; -SMP 3 and at 3.3GHz. It's settled down to 46C and each % is taking 11-12 minutes.

Is that on a 2M unit or a 500K? My 2.5GHz quad takes ~ 19 - 21 minutes per "frame" on a 2M, and about 8 - 9 minutes (with the occasional one taking longer) on a 500K, running at 100% and all four cores, so whichever units you're on 11-12 minutes with other stuff running too is pretty good (and if that's on a 2M it's astonishing!)

    Re: Folding Chit-Chat

Thanks for the heads up. Maybe they just can't cope with all the points we're throwing at it at the moment.... Peh. Maybe not.

Kicked off the SLI 480's this morning to try and contribute a bit more. PPD now up to 128k as reported in FAHMON. I'm seeing really weird things. Some work units process better on the CPU with nothing going on the Fermi cards (ie higher overall score, TPF = 20-23 mins), whereas others seem to be less dependent (TPF =35 mins without SLI folding, then when engaged this raises to TPF = 37 mins plus then getting the added benefit of the SLI folding)

It would seem that it's not as straight forward as I might have hoped.

What CPU is that? 12mins / frame on a 2M with -smp 3 is pretty damn impressive (IMNSHO)
