hmmm so can anyone tell me why my system boots fine for 4-5 days of the week with certain OC settings and then the other 2 will require a POWER OFF POWER ON again scenario?
it seems that im not the only one having an issue either - yet abit seem unable to respond with anything concrete - not good.
tbh i am pretty much resigned to writing this board of due to its inability to do anything consistently.
I've been having cold boot issues with mine since day one. They seemed to get much better with BIOS 11. The board is stable at some very high clocks once booted, but it's getting it there that's the problem. It seems to boot 9 times out of 10 with BIOS 11 and 1333 FSB, but that drops to about 3 times in 10 at stock speeds and 1 in 10 with BIOS v10 or v12 at any speed. It also won't boot after cutting power to the board unless I reset the CMOS (not such a biggie since I leave my PC plugged in/PSU switched on all the time because I get fed up with replacing CMOS batteries to save the world.) I'm not sure I can put up with it much longer, so I contacted Abit to ask if another BIOS update was forthcoming, else I'll probably have to RMA the board for the Asus or maybe a 680i board
Really borring with this board, the vendor accepted to replace it by a gigabyte.
It was certainly my last abit...
Test was done with bios 12 but when restarting i had to reset and alter settings in bios again.
Flashed back to bios 11 and it seems to be the best for cold boot / restarts.
Have tried to get stable at 3.8GHz but not with 1.550v set in bios (does boot and run Super -PI 32M ok)
I must have a good board or more likely very lucky.
My main probs with this board is when i shut down pc, unplug a USB device and plug it back in it seems to reinstall drivers all the time.
Still i fancy playing around with another board soon but not sure what to replace this with.
Flash BIOS thing through windows automatically download the newest BIOS when you use it?
I updated my BIOS using it on friday, but I haven't had any time to play with it yet
hi all, just arrived here at these lovely forums and wanted to chime in on MY problem with this motherboard (purchased along with my E6600 day before yesterday).
whenever i go into the pc health status screen in the bios (april rev. 12, i think?), and scroll all the way to the bottom, my comp freezes up.
that's the extent of my problems. from what i've read here, i've been most fortunate.
EDIT: oh and one other thing, when i run CPU-Z, it doesn't report my L2 cache for some reason.
"whenever i go into the pc health status screen in the bios (april rev. 12, i think?), and scroll all the way to the bottom, my comp freezes up"
Yes mine does that too.
I contacted Abit UK support on the 22nd about this board and still haven't received a reply. I think I'll give up and try and get it traded for the Asus or MSI with my reseller. At least they seem to know how to sort out obvious BIOS bugs.
I emailed technical@abitcomputer.co.uk on the 21st, not sure if this is the correct address.
I'm having frustrating problems with cold & warm boot, even at stock CPU speed which often result in me wasting 10 minutes switching the machine on and off again to get it to boot. With BIOS 11, the cold boot problem is almost eliminated at the 1333 FSB setting and rebooting is fairly reliable, but then again, I don't think I should have to overclock my system just to get it to run stable!
At first, I thought it might be a PSU problem since I've heard some very negative things said about the Hyper TypeR 580W (despite every review I could find at the time of order being very positive) but every component of my system has tested fine with the mobo from my second system (which is an ASRock 945G board.)
It also won't run stable at 1T (with one or two sticks) regardless of the RAM installed or how slack the timings are and tends to forget voltage settings if I cut power to the board, meaning I have to do a CMOS reset to get it to boot with my usual overclock...
All this is really frustrating because it's obvious that the board isn't faulty; once booted, it's 100% stable, right up to the FSB wall of my E4300 and has been left running Orthos P9 for days on end! I just wish there was a BIOS fix for this board, otherwise I'm at the end of my tether.

The only thing I can suggests is that you send the board to me. I will have tested to make sure its OK. Failing that return the board for a refund or replacement.
I know have beta bios 13 if anyone wants to give it a try?
Yes please... It's worth a try to avoid having to RMA.
Do you think it's likely that the board is actually faulty or that it would test out fine with different hardware if I send it in under RMA? I haven't tried my Pentium D 925 on this board because A) It's an irrelevant test since I wouldn't want that under-performing, heat generating monstrosity in my main box and B) because I don't want to have to re-do my thermal compound (again!)
