    Re: Elite : Dangerous

I've not played in a while did trading get nerfed? Have they balanced out the professions? I'd love to smuggle but seemed little reward for massive risks. The whole idea of smuggling is massive rewards but risky!

Some trade routes have indeed been nerfed, but you can still find some good ones if you know the basics of using the Galaxy Map. It's easier the further away from the core systems you go.

Smuggling was a bit of a non-entity for me, really. I only ever got scanned when entering a station, whereas in Freelancer I was in danger of being scanned and shot up any time the local 5.0 were around - That was far more tense than anything else.
As is, I find sneaking into a station pretty easy - Mostly a matter of both timing and shutting down systems while in Silent Running.

    Re: Elite : Dangerous

I'll be flying around tonight. Still running the trading. Trying to get the naval progression up. Had one last night to assassinate someone. Thought better of it than to try to do that in the no shields type 7 im running around in at the moment so bought an eagle and kitted it out.

Found the target after a bit and he was in a federal dropship lol. It was the closest, tensest fight Ive had so far but did come up with a win thankfully. He had me down to 24% hull so was cutting it tight, any time he got through my shields he was really taking chunks out of me.

In the meantime im earning enough money that i might upgrade to the type 9 first so i can really make some big profit on my trade route and then go back after the dropship, depends which happens first!

I'd like to be playing, but it's Valentines tomorrow *and* we're having a braai, so that kinda takes priority... plus, if I'm lucky, I'll get some time with which to work on my custom joystick!!

I do need to start getting some Python money together though... Beta 1.1 really spoiled things for me - I still *adore* my Asp, but now I want a Python as well!!

I found that mission easier than the Empire equivalent that had the target in a Clipper. I used a Viper in both cases; beams and multi-cannons at the power plant. It was the next mission that requires you to kill a certain number of pirates that annoyed me. I happened to pick a '6' target one, went around USS's and managed to get to 5 before coming across an instance where an NPC offers you to betray your current mission (seems to be whatever mission that is) and it reset the counter!

    Re: Elite : Dangerous

I now have an ASP which can handle itself, but am wondering just when I have to use the scanner when Interdicted?

I'm sure I didn't get a bounty for one kill, but scanning seems to take forever and I just want to toast them and go

If you're interdicted (or generally killing) anyone wanted in a system you get the bounty for that system, you only need the scanner to get bounties out of system or in anarchy systems. Since most interdictions are in anarchy you probably need it most of the time if you care about the bounties from those - personally I've only been interdicted by AI sidewinders/eagles when not wanted and generally cba with them so just scoot.

Was really good fun last night, plenty of oh **** moments. didnt last long in the eagle went and grabbed a cobra mkIII for the action.

Getting rammed by an anaconda head on and ending up on 6% hull and canopy smashed in the middle of a war zone is defo a brown pants moment.

    Re: Elite : Dangerous

Glad people are having fun in Elite. I've stopped playing for now. It suffers for me from a lack of content and player influence. I hope they develop the trading aspect more too so you can by and sell ship weapons and ships even.

I'm trying not to compare too much with eve I've not played eve since 07 but its difficult to not somethings eve has done right. One thing eve did quite well was have a reason to mine you could mine for money or to build your own ship. A more player influenced economy. Mining smuggling trading in elite just seem to be so you can grind to the next ship.

I do enjoy the combat aspect which is far superior to eve. Would love to see the addition of Electronic warfare too.

That Anaconda money made me laugh, even more so hearing the 'Oh ****' on comms when you realised you had less than 5 mins of oxygen

I made about £150k all in last night, not bad given I had a 170ly journey first!
