    Re: Elite : Dangerous

There are two ways of getting into a port with a wanted status.

1/ Go find an outpost nearby because they don't tend to have patrol ships to scan and harass you, pay off your wanted status in the contacts page, and then you are clean. Note this doesn't work with big ships as you can't land there.

2/ Keep a distance from the station, line up with the entrance and coast in on silent running. Haven't personally got the hang of this, I should practice it more when not smuggling or wanted

Now the rules did change with this update, so I think if the police scan you an detect that you are on their naughty list then the station won't let you dock. That probably makes '2' harder, and can lead to '3'

3/ getting blown up seems to clear your bounty.

Have read about but not tried:

4/ Sounds like bounties drop slowly over time, if it was a minor indiscretion you could possibly just go exploring a bit and let the fine time out.

    Re: Elite : Dangerous

    Thank you for the tips!

It's a bid weird, cos I can't pay it off at the nearest place, it doesn't show up in Contacts for some reason. I've always been able to pay off fines etc easy enough, but this bounty doen't give me the option to do that with it.

I've not tried a silent running, I'll have a read up on that one!

I've been blown up several times, I even tried a self destruct, none of this clears it either!

I've gone off into another system now to try and earn some more dosh, so hopefully as you say it will clear in time!

    Thanks again :-)

Ah, is it because you have been wholesale slaughtering their pilots in RES areas? Not sure how it works if your reputation with the station management is iffy. Again, you used to be able to sneak in OK (in a cheap sidewinder just in case ) or just boost in so fast that the police chips don't have time to finish a scan, but lots of things just changed.

    Yeah that'll be it then!
I've been hammering their RES areas for a couple of weeks now trying to build up some some cash. I've been following this guide on youtube, to try and get enough cash uptogether for a decent cargo ship. I had a couple of unlucky shots against them, clearly I'm not liked anymore!

    Re: Elite : Dangerous

Being able to pay off bounties was removed in v1.3. You have to wait it out now I'm afraid, if you look on the screen it'll say how long you'll be wanted for.

Anyone tried the Powerplay mechanic? Since I'm all about the pewpew, I've signed up with Patreus...

I thought that in the new system; you had fines that you could pay off whenever but after a period of time (when the fines haven't been taken care of), they then mature into bounties and you come up as wanted.

If you have a fine from something like trying to dock without permission, you can pay that immediately. If you don't pay that off quick enough, it becomes a bounty.
If you shoot someone unlawfully and get an instant bounty, that then sits on your head for a period of time (see Transactions tab, Left UI). Once that expires you typically have to jump out of the system and then return, upon which you can then head to a station and pay it off.

Depending on how badly you're Wanted and what for, you can sometimes blaze into the station at high speed. Once you're past the docking window/forcefield thing you're usually safe from the patrols, even if they have already scanned and engaged you.
That's how I do it, although I usually check my fire... Just a PITA when you're blazing away with turrets and the target chucks out ECM, so you untarget that only to accidentally target a nearby friendly and end up opening on them!!

I won't be flying with turrets any more... at least not until I can work out a re-jig of my controls, or something.

    Powerplay is looking interesting.
I won't pledge to anyone yet though. I need the freedom to go places and remain (mostly) unhassled by the local filth...!

If you did that, then it would almost certainly be out of date and require updating the game to the latest version which it will do by downloading the updates so you are back to square one.

I'm sure the family can stream at slightly lower res for a while for you to install the game

Sounds like a case of "better to ask for forgiveness than seek permission" to me

They don't have to stop, and you can't imagine why they get "buffering" every 5 mins

    Re: Elite : Dangerous

I've not done much in elite for the past few months and 1.3 has nerfed combat and large ships now costing a fortune to fix again. At leas this is from what i read not from experience

Not sure if this is all deliberate or bugged. Powerplay is being criticized just an extra grind fest dressed up in different colours. Although combat missions have been improved. Its a good concept poorly implemented by the sounds of it. I might give it a try in a few days to formulate my own opinion but my gaming time is limited and I have other games attracting my interest at the moment.

You should be OK. The file size is surprisingly small for the depth of the game. Good old procedural generation!
