Shhhhh, dude, don't rub it in

Edit: I keep track of my finances with an Excel spreadsheet. I see that Quick Office, or whatever it comes bundled with, appears to allow viewing of excel dcs, but now editing. I've found documents to go, which you have to pay for. Anyone aware of a free alternative?

Edit 2: Shall we also incorporate in this thread recommended Android software? Might be helpful. We can share good stuff we've found (or you can, and I'll contribute once I've got the phone )

Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread

    Guys,
Someone help me out: On mobile.co.uk, I'm looking at the vodafne your plan 600, which has no mention of whether it has data included, and there is mention somewhere that on "some plans", data is free, and on others (unspecified) it's another £5.

Orange apparently equally vague and hopeless. Any pointers? Do most plans come with data now?

On there if it says "Your Plan XXX + Mobile Internet" then data is included, otherwise it's £5.

Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread

They are currently the biggest network in the UK.

They won't be once Orange and T-Mobile merge properly and the networks are opened up for both sets of customers.

I think being on Vodafone would probably give me a better overall signal, but looking at the current deals, you get more minutes on T-Mobiles top package (1200 vs 900) for £5 less a month over 18 months. It's a tough call.

Not apparently. They defintely are. Which has made me stop with all the unlocked and SIM monthly plan nonsense, and just hold out until Desire Black is available on Orange.

Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread

Well it looks like I won't be upgrading until August.

I took a discount on my line rental instead of a new handset last year and they gave me another 18 months on my contract without making it clear to me. I assumed that was just a no-handset discount. Oh well, live and learn. I did change to the 1200min/500text plan though, should stop me going over my minutes quite so much from next month.

I'l give a breakdown of my impressions of this device:

    • The UI is as slick and fast as a iphone. No lag whatsoever while some music was playing in the background and the web browser on
    • If you have a facebook and twitter account, A widget called friends streams RSS all updates gathered from twitter and facebook in one list.
    • Audio quality in terms of using it has a mp3 player is on par on my ipod touch
    • build quality is good, very good slick design all round
    • fantastic screen. better than the iphone
    • The sense UI is so good that their is no reason to go into the main menu as you can add tons of shortcuts, widgets across 7 different screens
    • Camera quality is decent (will post some later)
    • Keyboard is superb and as good as the iphone after re-calibrating it. Finds and corrects words more accurately and i can now type as fast as i could on a iphone
    • You can create a playlist and add and remove songs right from the device unlike the iphone/ipod touch where you have to manage your playlist on a pc using itunes.
    • You can also simply drag and drop files of almost any kind on your phone, again without the need ofa sync app like itunes.

    now for some negetives
    • Battery life is OK. i started playing around with it heavily from 2pm browsing the internet, playing music and as of now, i have drained half of the battery life. i heard what kills it is the friends stream and the emails that get pushed to me
    • The back cover could have been build a bit better. the plastic bit that connects and locks it in place is a bit too thin and i hope i dont break it like i did on the N95
    • No pouch included on it which is a shame
    • (Removed, please see comment above)
    • The music player doesnt have a built in equalizer and the max sound volume is not that high.(5/8 of the sound volume on a iphone)
    • No physical call or cancel button and have to fully rely on the screen to make a phone call or end a phone call
    • Uses micro usb connections and i would have personally preferred it used mini as i don't have any micro usb cables, only the one that came with it.

Overal this device is excellent. Very fast and responsive as a iphone. Very chuffed that the MP3 player is as good as my ipod touch so i have no need for an ipod

All i need is a 32gb sd card hehe.

I am going to start creating some personalized apps for it. This thing is a beauty i tell ya.
added a few new points after having it for nearly a week now.
