To get their apps on your phone, users went mental (well, some did) so they've had to pull it.
Simply the steps are:
1) Root with unrevoked
2) Backup with titantium backup (onto sd and copy to PC for redundancy)
3) Backup with Nandroid in boot menu (onto sd and copy to PC for redundancy)
4) Flash new radio (can do this from ROM manager or from boot menu)
5) Swipe data and cache (can do this from ROM manager or from boot menu)
6) Flash rom (you will need to turn off signing, if signing is off this will work with rom manager too)
7) Reboot device (there is an option in clockwork), reinstall titanium backup and restore
Titanium backup is quite impressive. Worked so well I decided to donate $6 for the pro version!

Step 2 – Installing a Custom ROM (Optional but recommended)
1. Download a ROM from XDA or MoDaCo (I recommend Paul’s MCR r5 with Sense from MoDaCo)
2. Transfer it to the root of your SD Card (i.e. Not in any folders)
3. Go to the Android Market and download an app called ‘Titanium Backup‘. Open it and tap the ‘Problems‘ button to install BusyBox.
4. Then hit Menu Button > Batch > Backup All Apps + System Data Wait for it to finish.
5. Turn off your phone & turn it back on holding POWER + VOL DOWN then use vol up/down to scroll down to ‘Recovery‘ and power to select.
6. When you see the recovery screen, use the trackball to scroll to ‘Nandroid‘ and press the trackball to select. Then select ’Backup‘ (You can also use ‘Restore’ to restore)
7. When it’s done, go back to the main menu and select ‘Wipe Data/Factory Reset‘
8. Once that has done, go to ‘Flash zip from SD Card‘ and select the ROM you downloaded.
9. When it’s finished, select ‘Reboot‘ and your phone will reboot into your new rooted custom ROM!
10. You can repeat this process every time you want to flash a new ROM.
Updating your radio (Only if your ROM Requires it)
If the ROM you want to download requires you to have the new radio image (Such as the new FroYo ROMs) you need to install it.
1. Download the radio you want to use.
2. If possible, use an md5sum checker tool to verify the integrity of the file (Check it against what it says where you downloaded it)
3. Transfer the radio to your SD card.
4. Boot into recovery (like you did in step 2.4 above)
5. In the recovery screen, select ‘Flash zip from SD Card‘ then ‘Choose zip from SD Card‘ and select the radio you want to use.
6. After it’s done, press back to get to the main menu and then select ‘Reboot‘
7. The radio is now flashing. DO NOT interrupt it. Your phone will reboot twice and the process could take up to 10 minutes.
8. After it’s done, your phone will reboot automatically into your new radio!

Hm, tried to install Titanium and it said it couldn't get root access. Is there some way I can check if I'm properly rooted?
edit: installed busybox, seems to work now
Heh. Was looking through my shed last night with my dad, and used the torch function.
Compare and contrast: My wife, when I showed her the torch, sighed deeply and left the room.
My dad was well impressed.
Edit: With, like, the torch. Not with my wife leaving the room.
My HTPC: Linky
Using LeeDroid 1.8 installed last night very stable really liking it now to try and find out how to use or even find apps2sd as I did create and EXT3 partition.
