I've got an unbranded HTC Desire, so grabbing the OTA 2.2 upgrade was as easy as it's meant to be - hurrah!

Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread

I've found the built-in app for handling mail a bit lacking, and I really want to do is do be able to turn off and off the receiving of new messages - something that iPhone users can do by default. If I go out, I should be able to receive new mail - or not. It's my choice. Is there a mail client app to do this? I've added my email details, but it seems the only way stopping the receipt of emails is my the delete the whole account, and I'm not delete/re-setting my account all the time!

On the power control widget - simply disable the 'sync' button. One click.

It's there by default, unless you removed it.

"With Sync disabled, the phone will no longer perform any background synchronisation for emails, contacts, calendar, facebook, twitter or Flickr. With this option disabled, you'll no longer receive any alerts or notifications for Email, Gmail, Twitter or Facebook - but you can go to any of the widgets for this apps, or the apps themselves and hit the refresh button to manually poll for updates whenever you want. This method saves a shed-load of battery life, so it's worth disabling background sync in most situations where you don't need to be alerted to such things."

Alternatively change the schedule of updates to suit you - or use that app i IM'd you about to set up a clever rule.

Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread

some clever bod has sorted the bootloader problem ie if you had done the upgrade from 2.1 -2.2 over the air on an unrooted phone you wouldnt be able to root your phone after the upgrade

    it now appears you can

Good news - but seems to imply it blanks the phone?

Hopefully 92 will get hacked soon.

Ooh ~I've just discovered instead of swiping down to unlock you can just press menu, as to how useful that is I'm not so sure yet!

Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread

I just rooted... figured it would be easier to root and go custom rather than gold card -> unbrand -> froyo

Probably going to stick this one on, but I got to read up on radio flashing first...

That one is just stock 2.2 + root. Not with APPS2SD installed I don't think.

Pressing Menu to unlock was removed in 2.2. But I can confirm it does work in 2.1 fine.

Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread

reading through all the threads of the various roms , there seem to be glitches with all of them , but its hard to see if its user error or the quality of the rom. The modaco R5 Im on is has been perfect, the only glitch Ive seen with it is with pop mail where I go to hit the mail and they have disappeared its done this 3 times now. Im going to wait for the modaco R7 to move from WIP to final before I flash again. Perhaps we could get a rom watch going on in here

Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread

Ran a few SD benchmarks to test if my 8gb class 6 that came with my old Touch HD is good enough for apps and I got some interesting results...

Why is my read speed so low?

Hence why I am waiting for all the bugs to be ironed out. And for AdamG to do something with the official official 2.2 release.

I just stick with the official 2.2 for now with minimal changes. Not come across any issues so far!
Give it a month or so and people will be doing fantastic things with it, fully stable.

I did a 720p video recording today. The playback sucked so bad it was unbelievable. Yet to try on a PC and see if it's any different.

Works fine for me... when you say sucked do you mean the pic quality or the framerate? and which rom are you using?

If you remove the plastic lens cover, the picture quality improves significantly.
