You have to overclock it quite heavily (around 3,8-4,0GHz) and run a virtual machine with specified cores as 8 (don't ask how to do that, haven't a clue ), and then it manages to be on time for bigadv units.

Not too bad tbh, I do have Internet access away from home with my laptop and iPhone, and I am doing some decorating and diy round the house right now so no real problems, but I am loosing 20k ppd, and am not sure if my bonus points will kick back in, or if I will have to wait another 10 work units

They'll kick in. I moved machine, and still got bonus points from the 1st unit.

Packed up my uni room this evening (except I forgot all my pots and pans -.-) so my PC will be set up here without its unlimited electricity and I'll think about what client to run and for how long.

Woo getting 15k ppd on my 1090T on all 6 cores at 4GHz.

Nibbler, I am in uni halls so free electricity. So I'm not too bothered about efficiency. I was trying to keep my room warm in December

That with bigadv would get some 25k PPD, according to the CPU PPD database. But that would involve much fuss, I guess.

    It's against the EULA though...

    Re: Folding Chit-Chat

Currently in the process of working out the lowest voltage my GPU can run at 850MHz - I had it way higher than it needed to be. I've just notched it down the the 1.000V mark. I'm also going to see about reducing the OC on my CPU (+voltage) and looking at Speedstep or whatever it is that underclocks the CPU at idle to further reduce my power consumption whilst still folding. I remember seeing a graph or something which demonstrated how it was the overvolting (compared to simply overclocking) that really pushed up power use, hence my aim to lower the volts.

I presume that this is just stated to stop too many of the LARGER workunits going out into the wild and missing their deadlines. It allows Stanford to split the work into work units that they can effectively manage, and not have too many/too few out there.

    Thanks for the linky....

    Re: Folding Chit-Chat

Right, a bit of an update. I'm now down to 3 servers, one of which is a big adv but will lose two of those (including the bigadv) on Friday. The remaining one runs around 8kppd.

Not sure when I will be able to run folding on them again but this is your chance to catchup.

I don't think SpeedStep will do much while you are folding: as far as I know it only drops the voltage & frequency when the whole CPU is idle. Then again, the i5 should have better power gating on individual cores,so I could be talking rubbish

As to overvolting vs overclocking: overclocking causes a linear increase in power draw, where as overvolting causes an exponential increase. So yes, it's the voltage that *really* pushes the power draw through the roof, although the clock speed increases do contribute as well...

Looks like your reign of terror is almost over... I'm REALLY gutted to see your numbers have dropped off so much so, especially when I am so near completing my death star... sorry, I mean rebuild.

The good news is that even with the lower team PPD we are still climbing the charts. Short term, those who we overtook recently will catch us back up, but there are still plenty more to catch. I should be able to contribute another 30k ppd permanently folding (benching rig), and another 70k ppd (main 970 i7 + SLI gtx 480's) when I can finally get some time to myself to finish my rebuild. I promise I'll post pictures as this taken nearly as long as "Cunning Plan"

To cap it all, my wife's machine has gone kaput. No sign of life - I suspect that the PSU has gone which is losing me 3.5k ppd too! Nobody noticed that though

Hey, plus side, it looks like I might have the money this month to get the last few bits I need, and with the days getting longer I might even be able to fit a little bit of modding into weekday evenings. If not, then March should be good (assuming I don't lose my job, that is... )

heh! Just teasing mate I've got all the bits to do my mods and I've still been without a computer for over a month!

I'm runnin gout of my Xmas homebrew too, so I may well have to finish my builds to warm my room, to then leave my beer fermenting in. Hmmmm. Beer!

    Re: Folding Chit-Chat

Today is a momentus day. I finished assembling my "new" i7 970 rig. Leak testing was 3 days due to using so many fittings. Load temperature on BIGADV is..... 50C. A considerable drop from the 80-90C I was getting. I have yet to overclock the baby yet as I only just got it up and running. How am I stress testing it you ask? Folding of course!

Will post some pics. 40 days without a rig is probably the longest I've ever gone. Will leave it running overnight initially before I power it down tomorrow morning. Still go a couple of cables to fix in situe.

Projected PPD for me is now....

    84,000.

And thats with a projected big fat zero for the BIGADV as it hasn;t been running long enough yet to calculate a PPd rate. I'd say this will go up to 114k when that kicks in...

Coming after you 1stRaven! Finally! Just got 40 days of virus updates/Windows patches to install now...
