I think it's worth using just the CPU and all 6 cores repressor, you'll be getting 3-4kppd from that GPU? nowhere near as efficient.

Yeah, 3-4k PPD on the HD 5850. I'd only get the same from the 6th core. I think.
I presumed I wouldn't finish a bigadv in time, Tatty. :/
Think about it though, that 5850 is using like 150W, wheras 1 more core will only use another 40W? You need 8 threads to receive big adv, can be done on a linux VM, probably not worth the effort if you can't guarantee 24/7 running at 4ghz.
Anyone any idea what's going to pump out more numbers, an 8800 GT or a GTX210?
G210 (iirc) is a 16 shader card? If so you'll get ~ 1000ppd, maybe less (my 8400GS is an 8 shader card with the shaders clocked to ~ 1800MHz and produces around 500). 8800GT shouldn't be far behind my 8800GTX, which hits 4k-5k.
Well I've stalled for now.
After attempting to run the SMP client alongside the GPU one I can't get the GPU client to run at all, it starts, then just exits straight away.
Where are the temp files located (Win7) as I've deleted the install folder yet it's somehow stillpicking up my username settings/etc so I can't have got rid of it all
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Folding@Home-gpu
I *think*. It's certainly in a folder in that general area.
Isn't it in:
C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming?

Bleurgh No worries.
Stopped my GPU folding this morning, to ease up on the electric bill. Been a nice boost to my points for a week though Although oddly I seem to have submitted a work unit after I turned it off: still trying to work out if that's because I turned it off just it submitted a file, which was in turn just after an update, or if it's somehow restarted itself
I suspect the former, for some reason
It takes some time from sending in a unit to you receiving any credit for it.
On a separate note, I have finished work units waiting to be sent, but my internet has been down for days now, and with an eta of 4 more days before the problem is sorted my output is practically nil

Woo, I'm 7th now and I passed the 500k/month mark (just!) but on the down side, I'm moving my stuff out of my uni halls this afternoon so no more free electricity I'll have to have a think about which client to run for maximum pointage for minimum Wattage.

Been stuck on the sofa since last Thursday with flu. Only just got back some energy to check my emails and stuff today. Unfortunately, the last WU will have expired by now so it might be a while longer before I start getting bonus points (I also quitted one single-threaded WU when I fogot to add the -smp flag). Does anyone know how to just upload the completed WU without downloading a new one? I think that's partly what put me off folding last time - being forced to DL a new WU when you know you're going to miss the deadline, especially when you're tryig to meet the bonus point criteria.
there's a flag to add to the client that you should use to finish off the current unit only.
add the flag
-oneunit
to the end of the client and it'll finish processing the current unit, and then finish tidily. It's usually used when upgrading the client..
