I've being playing and i'm now running Leedroid 2.2d WITH data2sd - so i've got 1.5gb of 'internal' memory, much better performance (the memory card is far quicker than the internal memory) and a great ROM to boot. I'm also using scar45's excellent pcb sense theme plus the supercircle mod.

Basic steps that I followed:

1. Partition SD card like:

[ FAT32 Partition ] [ ext4 Partition]

I used 1.5gb for my ext4, the rest for FAT32 (8gb card) but 1gb is recommended.

2. Reboot to recovery (make sure your recovery supports ext4 - earlier clockwork recoveries didn't) I've got 2.5.0.7 clockwork on mine. Full wipe at this point.

3. Flash leedroid (app2sd version because isn't packed and thus can be modded)

4. without rebooting flash the app2sd killer (removed app2sd from the ROM)

5. Reboot

6. Allow the ROM to startup, setup the phone as normal - don't add your google account, do not install anything and stay away from market. Now reboot to recovery.

7. Flash the data2sd installer script, reboot. You now should have huge internal memory plus a nice speed boost.

8. (optional) now flash themes or other mods to your liking. You can also restore apps with titanium or another backup tool - everything works as before but quicker and with more space.


One word of warning - there is a risk of data loss if the battery goes dead so allow the phone to shutdown before the critical point. This is because the data2sd script must flush to the memory card on shutdown. It's not a massive problem but one to be aware of - don't rip out the battery.

can any 1 help i jsut got a htc desire.. and im already trying to load custom roms

now i thought it would be easy as i have done simular things on other handset/consoles etc... but ive hit a brick all (ive searched all over the net spent hours trying to find the answers)

i followed a guide that used unrevoked3 which installed went through no problem.. i have superuser on my apps list.

by using unrevoked3 it installed 2.5.0.7, which is the recovery (please correct me if im wrong tyring to get the terminologies)

i can access clockwork by powering down my handset - power on then go to recovery it then loads up clockwork - so far so good i think?

now when i load clockwork i get this msg at the bottom of screen

is this normal??? i dont think it is,

now from here ive tired putting a rom (zip) on going to install from sd. no joy!
ive tired going back in to normal os and downloading - rom manager - to install but all it does is bring me back to the clockworkmod screen as above...

this is a brand new htc running the newest stock version of froyo.. 2.29.405.2

Either an issue with the root or your SD Card. In Clockwork can you backup your phone? If so do it. If you can't make a manual backup (use something like sms backup from the market to backup texts etc) make sure contacts are google synced to back those up. Ant apps you will have to download again.

Backup your SD card (copy all contents to computer) and format it from the phone. Put your ROM of choice on the root of the SD card. Run Clockwork again and see if that works. If not re-run unrevoked to do the root and see if that sorts you out.

Before installing a new ROM you need to wipe the phone from within Clockwork.

I'm thinking about it. My contract with Vodafone ends on May 11th but from March 2nd I can upgrade. I've been wanting to get a Desire for ages but now there's the Desire S out I'm thinking it makes sense to forget the Desire and get the Desire S. I would get the Samsung Galaxy S2 but whilst it is technically impressive it'll be very expensive on contract I believe plus the button on the front of the phone makes the whole thing look ugly.

The Desire S is 5g lighter than the Desire.
The Desire S is 4mm shorter, .2mm narrower and .27mm thinner but still has a 3.7 inch 480x800 screen.

The only thing I'm worried about is that the Desire was obviously very popular and therefore had a lot of attention paid to it in terms of rooting and custom ROMs. I've no idea if the Desire S will be as popular with the rooting commmunity and so I wonder if I get the Desire S will I be able to put up with it not having as many ROMs as the Magic (my current phone) and the Desire had.

Provided I can get the Desire S free for no more than £35 a month I will get that, otherwise I might see what 18/24 month deals I can get for the Desire.

I would have thought so yes. Both sim free and on contract the Desire should be a bit cheaper than it is now. Say Vodafone offer the Desire free on a 24 month £30 a month deal it could be free on a 24 month £25 a month deal.

Hi Dangel, thinking of giving data2sd a go but before I do, is there any reason you've switched back to Leedroid from StarBurst and inparticular 2.2d rather than 2.3d?

You can get gingerbread now. Latest oxygen rom is very good now that the N1 OTA is out.

Prefer Ginger Villain, although Oxygen does run 2.3.3 with their v2.0 release.

I jumped from Gingervillain to Cyanogen (sp?) - seems much cleaner & snappier but I had to put the google apps back on as they were stripped out. No battery % though in this build (RC not nightly)

Still got pants battery life, might try another kernel to see if it makes any difference.

Hi Dangel, thinking of giving data2sd a go but before I do, is there any reason you've switched back to Leedroid from StarBurst and inparticular 2.2d rather than 2.3d?

It's 2.3d - sorry a typo on my part! Reason for going back to leedroid? It's a much better featured ROM and is very reliable and stable. Starburst gave me a few issues and I started to miss features from Leedroid. It's a personal choice though!

I've also stuck with LeeDriod for a while now and have to echo what Dangel is saying. For me, it's been the most 'stable experience' I've had with custom ROMs so far. Going to 2.3 doesn't really bother me - I'll wait a while as most seem to have their niggles currently (no matter how small).

My battery on LeeDriod is fantasic, and data2SD is brilliant

Thanks guys, I was on 2.3d as well but with App2SD and yes the battery life was amazing. As of 1pm today I'm on 2.3d still but now with data2sd enabled. :-)
