Does that mean If I buy a Quad Core chip for this motherboard then it won't work well?

    Re: fatal1ty fp-in9 sli

alright so I have read through the whole thread and more...
and I still cant overclock my e2180 which many people say is easily OC'ed from 2.0 to 3.0
I have tried to set my FSB to 1333 with X9 Multiplier and set the CPU:Memory to Sync to get 667 and also tried to manually set it to 800 on my RAM the volt on it is 1.85 tried leaving them at that default number and also have tried the recommended spec at 2.1...no go. upped the VCore to 1.4 , 1.375 and still it does not give me any result. Just blank screen and have to reset CMOS. I currently use version 13 official as I heard that it gives the best result. I have disabled the C1E function and the EIST. I have also disabled CPU FAN speed still NO RESULT.

any1 can give me any idea as to what I can do?

UPDATE: tried 310 X 9 = 2.8 at stock voltage disabled C1E and EIST still no result just blank screen. am I doing something terribly wrong?

at 1.65V? is that voltage safe for a VVT? and what does uping the VVT volt do anyway?

    Re: fatal1ty fp-in9 sli

I can't guarantee that is 100% safe. I've tried it and my mobo is still alive. I needed to do that on bioses 14+ when changing the fsb or else had no post nor stability.
    It's the voltage for FSB.
You can also have a FSB-hole. Me for instance can't boot @ anything between 801-1332 FSB. Maybe you have different hole?

    Re: fatal1ty fp-in9 sli

I disagree with the bad overclocking capabilities

Ive got a Intel Pentium D 925 3.0ghz dual core and overclocked to 4.0ghz easily on air

    Plus i got 6gb ram, (4gb team elite pc26400 and 2gb standard ram pc25300)

And they are running on 850mhz cl4 and the 2gb standard ram is holding it back!

Remember that this motherboard is factory overclocked already, it really does give it an extra boost without you realising

Try using super pi and you'll see. I got 32 seconds on super pi on windows vista ultimate 64 bit and thats only because my cpu is quite old and ****ty, its terrible on 3dmark06

I would like to try setting it to a safer number if I may for the VVT so can u recomend a safe number to start off with? and what about the NB volt do I need to change that too?

Save your current bios and try the latest one (16?) it made all the difference for me.

tried it no go. after trying many times without a hint of success, can't even get some kind of respond just blank screen, I think this mobo is just plain messed up. unless I know what else to do I think its safe to say this is just plain bad.

    Re: fatal1ty fp-in9 sli

mine board somtimes just hangs and even clearing cmos won't bring it back to life. it needs to be left for several hours and then it's just booting up normally. the board is not a good one. it's awful to be honest. can't even make it to stabilize when having different divider for memory. I have synchro. 3:4 (444MHz mem) is random errors, not mentioning my ram can boot windows up to 600MHz (CL5 2.2V).

sorry for my bad english, but it's late..

@pandastew - i'll think about your prob when i'll have a moment. but it simply should be able to do 3GHz.

    Re: fatal1ty fp-in9 sli

hey I got something!...225fsb at 10X for 2250 with ram 720 (5:4 ratio) cpu vcore at 1.375 and vtt at 1.278? nb voltage at 1.31 ....nvm got to Ubuntu sign in page and then shut down... at least I know that maybe it would work someday... any recommendation guys?

EDIT: got something at 250fsb 10X with vcore at 1.4 and the rest one step down from baronie's recommendation. although not quiet the 3000 said to be easily achievable with e2180, it is a progress. will see if it works using prime95! by the way I noticed that EIST function was automatically disabled is that normal?

    Re: fatal1ty fp-in9 sli

ok...what a weird mobo...so after I ran the prime95 for about an 1hour on my previous setting of 1000fsb with 10X, I tried to run it higher at 1333FSB at 9X with the same setting but turned off CPU FANQC (no automatic adjustment to CPU fan) now it worked where previously I have tried many similar setting but did not give me the slightest result. I guess the board wants me to warm it up first before going in for the kill...so strange...gona see what Prime95 have to say.
