Anyone here having the issue with the pink screens?
not got any sort of tinge on my handset at all (received this morning and is amazing!) just need to download some apps etc and away we go! need to find a decent guide on how to use all the features on the handset and go from there

Actually, I HAVE noticed a green tinge on the phone, but it tends to be generated by the people I show it to

Except iphone users, who resolutely maintain that NOTHING will EVER be better than an iPhone. EVER. YOU HEAR ME? EVER.

    It's actually quite insidious.

What sort of battery life are people getting on these? (comparison to an iPhone would be nice )

    Two questions.

If I bought an unlocked version of the phone and used it with an o2 pay-monthly Sim, would there be any problems as this phone isn't being released on o2?

Where is the cheapest I can get this phone sim free(unlocked)?

Well by definition of unlocked phone, no.

Not sure where you can get it cheaply, maybe look on ebay (but be careful!).

Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread

Not surprised iPhone users are so defensive - they've paid a lot for the "iPremium". Cheapest (latest) iPhone I could find on contract was double the price of the cheapest Desire contract, for a phone with double the processor.

Case - I went for a rather nice leather pouch one off Ebay, but possibly a "flip" one may have been better.

Also bought (so far): car holder, car charger, docking station, screen protector (though took it off again: too much reflection), spare mains charger. Still to buy: spare battery (docking station has a space for charging one), ear piece.

Battery lasts a day, then charge o/n.

What docking station did you get? I'd appreciate a link

I won't touch eBay for phones. Handtec or Expansys are reputable for unlocked phones. As its unlocked you won't have any problems using any SIM in it. However I think O2 are due to release it this month, their holding page for the Desire says 'April' http://www.o2.co.uk/htcdesire

Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread

Just ordered the Desire from Vodafone Can't wait to get it.

My existing contract doesn't expire until November, but spoke to the web relations team (who seem FAR more user friendly the the normal VF tele sales lot). They said they can just tag a new contract on to what I have left on my old one. So if I have six months left on my old contract and take out a new 18 month contract, I effectively have a 24 month contract.

They offered me an 18 month contract, 300 minutes, unlimited internet and texts for £25 per month with £66 up front for the phone. They also offered 600 mins, £12 for the phone for £30 per month.

If anyone else wants to follow this route with the VF web relations team, register on the VF forums and ask them to contact you. They'll send you an email asking for a few details and go from there.

Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread

Too long for a contract IMO. I am not too happy with 18, let alone 24mo. Phones break, new ones come out ... I don't mind paying a little towards a new phone. They should bring back 12mo contracts.

Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread

How good is this phone on the internet via 3G? I've got an Xperia X1 and quite frankly it's rubbish when I'm out and about. I often need to log support tickets via a browser, and I usually end up tearing my hair out by the time the X1 has got its act together.

It's slow to render pages, buttons as images are sometimes unclickable and embedded scroll bars are usually unscrollable. It usually results in me havinng to get home to log the ticket which totally defeats the point of having a "smartphone".

So is this phone pretty good when it comes to speed and compatability on the net?
